Try to inspect if there could be obstructions inside the printer. If you have experienced any paper jams, please inspect for paper shreds that might have stuck in between the rollers. This could also be a misalignment on the rollers so you might as well wanna check that out.

If this printer is still under warranty, you can save cost of repair by bringing it to an authorized canon service center.

Why is some of the printed text overlapping?

If the text on the screen is ok
It is usually du to a wrong driver installed.
uninstall your printer and reinstall it, and make sure you chose the EXACT model when you install the drivers

Printer prints words on top of each other

Check to make sure that there is nothing preventing the page from being pulled into the printer. Overlapping words is often caused by the paper feed not moving quickly enough, subsequently causing words to overlap and not span the entire page.
If that doesn't work, let me know and we'll troubleshoot further.

Brand new Lexmark T644s making "clunking" noises when printing.

This is a pretty general description of a printer making a noise. If it is brand new out of the box, in your user manual it should tell you of some retainers or stops that are put on the printhead and carriage for shipping purposes. Be sure you have read that part and it will give a picture of where they are located and how to get to them to remove them before operation. Good luck and God bless.
If everything is off as it should be, then consider seriously taking it back, it is brand new and it should not do anything but work right.

Noise and overlapping 'ghost image' on photos

It sounds like something causing the print head to **** e.g. lack of lubrication on the track, missing teeth form the drive belt etc. Use MS Word (or something) to draw a black, magenta, cyan and yellow square, then drag the four squares so they completely overlap. Then lift up the printer top cover and print it. Watch the print head and see if you can identify the cause of the misalignment. Let me know what happens, or if you don't quite understand what I'm asking, come back at me.

Oki C9500 makes VERY LOUD clunking noises but prints fine...

The sound is most probably from one (or more) of the drum units. You can check by taking them out and trying to run the visible gears by hand. If you have spare drums, change them one at a time until you find the defective one.
