Question about Frigidaire FAH085N1T Air Conditioner

1 Answer

We own 1 of the230 models ,& it just does not keep the room cool. When holding your hand directly in front of the fan the air is cool ,but not cold like our existing units. I was wondering if there might be some common problems I could look for

Check the filters if clean try cleaning the coils front and back. A hose should do the trick. Just blow through both side try not to bent the fins.

Where can I get a manual for my Emerson Quiet Cool Room Air Conditioner? Not sure the model, but these #s were on outside of box: 10DC93 784040B OE21M N14421, is on a little sticker on the right...

Let see if I can help. The numbers don't come up so we'll just try your information.

Exhaust - should be closed when using for Air Conditioning
Energy savings turns the fan off with the compressor when set for Air Conditioning
Fan Only means just that (no Air Conditioning)

Fan speeds Quite same as low, Norm same as medium, Super same as High
Temp settings, what the thermostat senses before cycling compressor.

How to cool big home with small air conditioner(s)

A lot of people have only one or two rooms that can take an air conditioner in the window. Often times, the air conditioner is also rated at a cooling power that would make you believe that there is no way that it can to cool the whole house/apartment. You can crank it to the max to try to cool as much as possible, but then this makes one room too cold and the others still stay too hot. You can try blasting the cool air down a hallway with a fan on maximum speed, but that only works so well. And, it's noisy, too. Well, I have two 260 sqr ft rated room air conditioners and I am cooling 2000 sqr feet of house to a comfortable 72 degrees in all rooms and it's been 95 outside all day. How to do it?

The trick is setting up your home to take advantage of laminar air flow. Set your air conditioner to say 68 degrees and start it in the middle of the morning before it feels hot outside. Put the AC deflectors pointing downward and towards the door. Put fans in the doorways pointing out of the rooms that have the AC. Point them level to the floor (not up) and put a fan to one side near the end of long hallways. Set the fans on the lowest power setting (not high). If the hallway branches out into a bigger room, put a fan in the room that is blowing across at a right angle to the entry, pointing the air flow parallel to the wall. This will circulate the cool air around the room. Keep the fans on low and pointed parallel to the floor, not up!

What you have created is a re-circulating air flow system, much like the North Atlantic Current that moderates the temperatures of Europe. You can check this by taking a tissue paper and holding it up to the top of the doorway. The air flow should be pushing the tissue away from the room without the AC and toward the room with the AC. This happens because the warmest air will be toward the ceiling and you want that warm air to make its way across the ceilings and back to the room with the AC, so that it can be cooled again. The cooled air from the AC will sink to the floor and the fans will gently push the air out of the room with the AC. It will stay low and travel along the floor in the opposite direction and into the warmer rooms. If you crank your fans up, you will create turbulent flow and that will not cool your house as efficiently as will laminar flow. Monitor the outside temperature and when it gets cooler outside by a few degrees, turn the AC to fan for about 10 minutes to eek out the last of the cooling. Then open the windows for the night to take advantage of the free cooling that nature provides. That's it! Enjoy the summer!

Keeping your whole home cool with central air.

Sometimes it is difficult to keep your home cool in the hot summer months. Also, some areas of your home may still be hot where other areas are too cool. Try this method to keep your home cool evenly throughout. Before you get started make sure your furnace filter is new. This will allow for maximum air flow.

If your living space is a single floor plan:

  1. Turn the air conditioning on
  2. Switch the furnace fan from auto to on.
  3. Measure the temperature in each room.
  4. Close the vents by about half in the cooler rooms
  5. This will force more cool air into the warmer rooms.
  6. Keep adjusting the vents until all the rooms have the same temp.

If your living space is on more than one level:

  1. Turn on the air conditioning.
  2. Switch the furnace fan from auto to on.
  3. On the lowest level of the house close half of the vents that are the closest to the stairs.
  4. This will force more cool air to the top floor where it is usually hotter.
  5. Cool air will sink from the upper floors which will keep the area near the stairs cool.
  6. Measure the temperature in all the rooms.
  7. Keep adjusting the vents until you have a nice even temperature throughout the house.
I found that leaving the furnace fan on all the time will keep your home evenly cool and comfortable. You may have to replace your furnace filter once a month due to the increased air flow. It will be well worth it in a cooler, more comfortable, and more energy efficient home.

Take Care,

Eric

MY GE ROOM AIR CONDITIONER AGH08AJG1 SWITCH BETWEEN COOL AND FAN EVERY 5 MINUTES APROXIMATELY NEVER SATYS COOLING UNTIL THE DESIRED TEMPERATURE IS REACHED

Check and clean the filter if found to be dirty. It is usually behind a decorative panel below the cold air output grates (when the cold air is on the top front).

steve_con_75.jpg
The filter is behind the large, rectangular, slotted front panel. The evaporator coil is behind the filter. The fan behind the evaporator pulls the room air through the filter and evaporator coil where it is cooled and dehumidified. It is then discharged through the grates on the top of the front.

Direct the airflow from the unit up and away or left / right to prevent the cool air from being drawn in the front of the unit (this is where the thermostat sensor is located). Use the highest fan speed to help force the air away from the intake, too. Inspect the condenser and evaporator coils (condenser is outside and evaporator is directly behind the filter. Clean if dirty or icing over. Be sure to install a filter if none was present. There are products made specifically for cleaning between the fins of the condenser and evaporator coils. Use them only as directed.

If these suggestions do not work, you may have a problem with the thermostat, refrigerant level, condenser or condenser fan.

Good luck!

My Hitachi indoor unit model RAS-26CHA1 is not giving out any cool air. The fan is working and have checked via manual. But manual does not have a trouble shooting section. Can you please assist me in...

To get cool keep temp setting 23 degree and mode in "cool" position. After compressor start, keep your hand on discharge pipe line (Smaller pipe), if it's warm your unit is starting cool. And also check with Amps meter for reading as per in name plate with the unit. If amps very less than specified, it's under gas leak. You have find out leak and arrest. Then charge gas.

LG LWHD8000RY6 Air Conditioner Not Cooling Room

Remove the front cover of the unit to expose the cooling coil. Put the unit on and observe if there will be formation of frost (ice) on the coil. If there's frost formation, the common cause is dirty cooling coil. Have it cleaned using an alkali base coil cleaner. If the coil is clean, then the problem is the fan motor. It might be turning slow due to copper loss. Have it replaced.

Failure during operation

No. The fan setting simply runs the fan full time bypassing the thermostat. In cooling mode the unit is slave to the thermostatic sensor located in the return air stream. If the unit is in a very small room or the exiting cool air is obstructed by furniture or curtains then the cool air is directed directly back to the sensor before mixing with the room air, causing erratic operation. Be sure several square feet of floor space is open in front of the unit and point the vent upwards and see if that makes a difference. Hope this was somewhat helpful, GL.

Sharp Air Conditioner. Model # AF-S85NX. Does this A.C. fan cycle on & off in the auto cool mode or does remain on continuously. I need a small A.C. that cycles off and on with the compressor.

If you set you r AC to FAN mode the unit will not cool, it only runs in the indoor but the outdoor will off. If you set to AUTO the unit will cool but the indoor blower will automatically run slower when the room is cool or attain the room temp. setting. If you set it to COOL the fan speed is fix depending on your setting and it also operate in cool.
