SOURCE: I need a start relay for a Kenmore (Danby)

Hi, I'd personally just go and put in a aftermarket start relay and overload. Look up part # IC41 or IC81, or even a rco/hs810. it's been a while since I've used them, but they work. Unless the unit is under warranty there's no consiquence. If you have warranty, these parts will void said coverage. Good luck, hope that helps

SOURCE: Our danby dwc 283bls is not cooling. The motor

The motor will run pretty hot. How old is the unit? It probley just needs to be cleaned out. Most problems with cooling is just clogged up coils. Is the motor just hot or is it vibrating to?

The original starting part QP2-4.7G is equivalent to this one. the 4.7G .... the PTC, so at this price, buy a spare because in year or two, you'll need another one.

Refrigerator not cooling ? Rridfe makinbg clicking noice ?

You did not include a model number so this is a generic response that hopefully is of some assistance. The clicking noise your hearing is the compressor cycling trying to start.
Reasons it may do this:
1. Brief power outtage of less than 5 minutes. (Unplug and wait 30 minutes if so)
2. Compressor not starting at all (causes)
a. PTC Relay failure
b. Run capacitor failure
c. Locked compressor rotor (I.e failed compressor)
d. Heated terminals or wiring problems near the compressor

A technician would do the following
1. Read terminals R & S to terminal C on the compressor (winding continuity checks)
2. Read terminals R and S to the case of the compressor (checks for internal compressor short)
3. If the above tests pass he or she would replace the PTC relay, Kilxon thermal overload & the run capacitor. If the compressor started repairs would be complete at this time. If not see step 4.
4. Perform and amperage check comparing the Locked Rotor Amperage (LRA_ amperage on the compressor label to the actual amperage reading. If it fails this test the compressor has to be replaced.

These are the basic steps for an AC voltage compressor. Should your unit have a DC compressor the steps are slightly different.

Compressor is short,Model FF 350.This is 350 lt.double door frost free fridge.Compresser needs to be replaced,It is bought in April 2003

If you have had recent power failures, OFTEN the PTC motor starter for the compressor gets fried. The part can cost $50 or if you shop online as low as $2. What happens is if power briefly goes off and compressor has been running, the pressure is built up and when pwoer comes right back on, the PTC starter cannot start the compressor under pressure. Usually the compressor will get hot and just hum. The PTC unit is in a box that plugs on the side of the compressor. There is a capacitor that survives this and if you reuse that, you can get just the PTC part for less than $2.

The PTC is a little disk about the size of a quarter and fourr times as thick. It comes in a plastic box that the capacitor plugs onto and the whole thing then plugs onto the compressor.

Refrigerator is not cooling. Compressor comes on than off after 20-30 seconds

you need to replace the ptc overload relay replaced on the compressor as this component is getting weak and is cutting out,it uses temperature vs. heat to protect the compressor from a no start or when the compressor cant operate on the run windings and overheats, then this ptc overload relay cuts out the compressor to protect it,it will keep trying to start the compressor till the ptc burns out,it just unplugs off the compressor and a new replacement plugs back in

If compressor is running and it gets hot and the unit does not cool the compressor is bad or you have a leak in the system. if you see oil there's a leak.

Danby dkc645bls cools once, then wont kick back on when it starts getting warm.

Your compressor is not starting and in your case you have a thermal induced problem.

I looked for about an hour for parts below on-line with little success. (Danby sourced)

You have 3 possibilites as far as what is causing your problem.

1. PTC start relay / Klixon (2 parts as an assy)
2. Run capacitor

These are not expensive parts even if you ordered all of them.

The sad thing about it is the parts are probably available at your "local" appliance parts store.

If you can look at your compressors' label and copy down the
Manufacturer (i.e Embraco, Mitsubishi Elec, Panasonic etc) and ALL numbers (including LRA)
you can take that info to the local appliance parts supply and walk out with the parts in hand.

Otherwise your looking at calling Danby (number below) and telling them you need a PTC Start relay / Overload and run capacitor.
