there is a switch on the door this would be my first place to check the mechanism that pushes on the switch may be broken and locking the actual switch in the closed position or the switch itself. this should be a simple fix. you may be able to bend mechanism back into correct shape or you may need to buy a new switch to replace the one on door

Burnt factory-placed fabric/foam inside Kenmore Dryer

Why it'd appears to be scorched I have no idea. The purpose of that fabric is to support the front of your drum and allow a non abrasive surface for the weight of drum and cloathing to slide on during use. The cloth you have in yours has been changed to silicone or other types of teflon type surfaces. John T.

How do you repalce a door latch on a Maytag Model 512 Dryer?

You should be able to pry out both the male and female piece with a thin blade screwdriver or putty knife. Don't worry if you break either piece. You should end up with two holes. one in door and one in front panel. Buy kit and pop in both new pieces.

You may want to buy the kit first (part number 306436) will show you the construction of the two pieces before you begin prying.

Good Luck

Whirlpool dryer wont start

Check the door switch actuator (the piece sticking down that the door actuates when closing . Could have broken off . If there , and you hear a click , then thermal fus (white piece with 2 wires attached ) could be problem . Disconnect power and put the 2 wires togather. Reconnect power and see if dryer starts . I have never had to replace a push-to-start switch .
