Question about Televison & Video
Look into the back side and it is possible that the leak is from the flyback transformer, a spark is just jumping around.
switch off and clean the static dust from the LOPT , clean the neck of the picture tube , use some silicon insulation to the area of leak noticed.
Now switch on to test.if the same noise comes on it can be that the power is switching off and the poping sound can be from the speakers.
Look into the power supply, main board fro dry soldering joints. clean and resolder all such suspected joints, tap around to confirm the presence of loose connection.
Be very careful when checking the set powered on.

If picture goes in and out and you could hear a popping noise, more likely it is a problem with power supply board. If you have some experience in electronics, you could open the TV and pull out power supply board. On that board, you would find blown / leaked / bulged caps. You need to pull them. Go to radioshack and buy similar caps. Solder the new caps and it would be all set.
If that would not solve the problem, revert and we would troubleshoot further.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
