Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

My whirlpool dryer seems to be noisier than normal. It seems that the tub turns with more resistence lately. The dryer works and gets the job done but it is noisier than in the past.I have taken the back cover off and cleaned out dust, What can I do to maybe make the tub work more smooth.

The dryer shuts off, keep getting an E1 code, what needs to be done

It sounds like this is a Whirlpool Duet or a Kenmore Elite Dryer due to the error code E1 being available only on this models. The problem here is an open thermistor as what error code E1 means. It's either the thermistor is exhibits an extremely high resistance or the wire harness connecting it to the control board is broken or cut open. Click on the link below for the detailed procedure in accessing the thermistor.

Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore Elite Electric Dryers Not Starting

Measure the resistance of the thermistor and refer the table below. Normal thermistor resistance is around 10000 ohms (10K) at room temperature.

Replace the thermistor if the resistance is significantly higher (or lower) than what it is supposed to be based on the resistance table above. Check the wire harness connecting it to the control board, if the resistance turns out good, and make sure the connectors are good and the wires are intact. Replace the wire harness if necessary. Consider replacing the control board if both the thermistor and the wire harness turn out good. The link below might enlighten you further on the troubleshooting of the thermistor.

I get an E1 code on a whirlpool duet dryer. What could the problem be.

The problem is the control thermistor being detected open by the electronic control. It's either the wire harness connecting the thermistor and electronic control is broken or the connection is loose or the thermistor is indeed open. Measure the resistance of the thermistor then refer to the temperature and resistance table for the normal thermistor resistance values. Click on the link below for the detailed troubleshooting procedure.

Whirpool dryer takes 3 hours to dry jeans or towels.

Most likely your heating element has partially failed. Some dryers have two separate resistance heaters in them. If one fails what you are describing can happen. If you have the tools and are willing to take it in it's not that bad a job. You have to take the cover off the dryer to see it, then it is two bolts. Any appliance repairman can handle this easily.

Dryer won't stay running

Sounds as if you have a belt or tub roller problem. Either can be fixed fairly easy but you will have to remove the tub. This is normally done by removing the top, then the front of the dryer. It would help a lot if you had someone to help you remove the tub.

Old whirlpool mini dryer

Those are front tub supports that keep the tub from scraping.Unless you start hearing a rubbing or scraping sound your dryer is ok.Just keep a ear open for awhile for any scraping sound. If you need help in the future with anything ,Im more than happy to help you.
