I own a Toshiba DR420KU player/ recorder. I can't make it record premium programs. It says it's a CPRM device and that it will record onetime only broadcast since it's copywright protected. I found on the net some suggestions re dvd disks that will allow recording premium channels. I bought one of them, TDK brand DVD-RW, set the machine to VR and it still wouldn't record. I have it connected to my Comcast cable, digital box. I can record commercial channels. Solution?.

It's set to allow one recording. You obviously didn't read my request carefully.

Even if you have the correct disk and the correct setting in the recorder, if the CPRM tag in the broadcasted program is set to deny all recording then your recorder will not record it. Sadly but it's just that simple.

You didn't look very attentively at the message: if it's labeled as a one-time broadcast then it can't be recorded, one-time being the key here = as in view it now or its gone forever. The second part of the message explains why - because it's copyright protected.

So the actual message says that it will NOT record one-time only broadcast since it's copyright protected.

This error e26 gets thrown up on some digital rights management programs.this really just means you are not allowed to record...ever increasingly thanks to the big corps like sony drm carrier signals are put into some broadcasts to overcome copying infringements.there still is a way to do this with the right equipment.some tv channels get revenue from their advert counts so they put these signals in to ensure that you can only watch at broadcast or catchup on certain devices.what I can't figure out is I can record anything whilst it's being aired and still transfer to older equipment but not anything with latest ios and certainly not with sony recorders.

I need a users manuel for a toshiba dr420 dvd recorder

Toshiba has the manual for the DR420 on their support site: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=2805096&rpn=undefined&modelFilter=D-R420KU&selCategory=2797338&selFamily=2797342 . (If you need to, click on the User's Guide tab.)

If this doesn't work, start at http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp . Click on Product Support and then DVD & Blu-ray and then DVD Recorders and then the model number in the various drop down menus.

Note this manual is the one for the DR420KU which is the USA version. If you are in another country, try that region's version of the Toshiba support site.

I hope this helps.

What kind of blank DVDs do I use to copy an old VHS video tape to the DVD? I have the Sony RDR-VX530. When I put a DVD in, I get an Error message saying that I have the wrong DVD.

According to page 30 of the operation manual, the following information may help;

DISCS THAT CAN BE USED IN THIS RECORDER:

4x-speed or slower DVD+RWs
2x-speed or slower DVD-RWs (version 1.1, 1.1 with CPRM) (Content Protection for Recordable Media)
4x-speed or slower DVD-RWs (version 1.2, 1.2 with CPRM)
16x-speed or slower DVD+Rs
16x-speed or slower DVD-Rs (version 2.0, 2.0 with CPRM, version 2.1, 2.1 with CPRM)
2.4x-speed DVD+R DL (dual layer) discs
(when using DVD+R DL discs, see the instructions supplied with them prior to use)
4x-speed or slower DVD-R DL (dual layer) discs

DISCS THAT CANNOT BE RECORDED ON:

DVD-RWs (version 1.0)
DVD+RWs that are not 2.4x-speed compatible
8 cm discs (mini-DVDs)
DVD-RAM (any speed/any version)
DVD-R DL (dual layer) discs in VR mode

A free pdf copy of the manual for this model can be downloaded online.

Hopefully that provides some insight to your question.

I have a toshiba dvd recorder ( DKR40) and I get a recording error of " Disk not CPRM comp" E-28. what does this mean?

It means that the disk in question doesn't support CPRM- (an encryption system for copy protection - embedded in the source signal that you try to record . CPRM recordings can only be made on DVD-RW discs in VR mode, and can only be played on CPRM-compatible players.

My panasonic dvd recorder was working great and then I had trouble with direct tv and now when I want to record something it gives me a copyright problem? HELP!!!

There is nothing wrong with the player or TV. The programs you are attempting to copy are protected by copyright. Therefore the player will not copy them.

I'm sorry but the TV system is so designed that certain premium and pay-per-view programs carry a signal which instruct the player to not copy them. You should not have any problem copying other free programs.

My DVD recorder doesn;t record. When I go to replay there is nothing on the Recorded list. (The message PSO is showing on the front of the recorder. Is this coneected?)

Ok recording is impossible.
1.this unit may not record programs that contain copy protection signal.
2.Check that there is nothing on the disc to start off with.
3.check that the disc is CPRM compatible.copy onc programmes can only be copied onto the disc which is CPRM compatible.
4.check if the the disc is protected or finalised.Undo the protection or the finalisation.
5.DVD-RW usually once formatted in another unit cannot be recorded in your unit unless formatted.
6.Check all connections are properly made.

Dvd and vcr recorder

Well LG makes this unless you can find a firmware up then you must order some DvD-RW with CPRM this allows you to copy your shows once then recording over them.I got this from LG.It's a common firmware problem that started when digital signals got sent with copy right protections.
