Question about Iomega (33652) 250 GB IDE Hard Drive

1 Answer

Iomega 250 GB IDE Hard Drive Problems & Solutions I have an external hard drive Iomega 250 GB IDE. It works perfectly well and suddenly I have tried to connect it to both of my computers but none of them actually recognize the external hard drive, it simply does not appear at all. I have tried to connect it with another USB cable (brand new) simply cause I could not find the old one I really need all the infos on there, I have all my music library and important documents i'm not too worried about getting photos videos back... But please inform me of whichever procedure I need to take to be able to get these particular things back and of course all of my coursework from my degree is in there... I have never experienced any trouble with this hard drive, and it has always worked properly, maybe something inside the case of the external hard drive has moved ??? If you get no joy using the Troubleshooting Guide then try this...
You will need to check You Tube to find a Dismantle on your product and follow the step guide on here, the procedure should be similar.
Check 1st that your External HDD has an P.C. internal HDD inside, from You Tube, before dismantle of your External HDD. Connections for an Internal Laptop HDD may have same connections as P.C. not sure though.
Once your happy that it has continue reading and follow the step guide on the link below.
My neighbour has the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB, and in under 2 weeks it started to beep and was not recognized by any Laptop or P.C. if this is the same for you with any FreeAgent Desk series ( not GO series, different procedure for GO products). You maybe in luck click this link, you may have to register in the forums to view thread.... http://www.yo-lid.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=84 Thread can be found in 'Technical' under 'General Technical Issues',
Only attempt this option if you have important information saved in it, you will find that you will be charged by your product makers for retrieval of any information saved on your product.
Thumbs up please if it's any use to you Thank you.

Thank you for helping out! I'm a bit lost in terms of wanting to defragment my external HDD and have completed an application on iomega's european website for a technicians help...
I thought about partitioning it but even in the computer management window, no external HDD appears... I guess it is a data corruption issue, due to the fact that I have switched it on/off a couple of times without turning it off poperly when the problem occured...

Thank you again for helping out! Hope I get some luck with the Iomega team for recovering the data...

My Iomega LDHD250U 250 GB USB External Hard Drive's Power and Usb ports WILLNOT CONNECT!!!!!!! Please help ive been trying to figure out why all day.

Dear Friend, Your I-Omega case might be bad or the controller inside that connects everything. I suggest you to get: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Apricorn-Universal-Hard-Drive-Adapter/10811435. and pulled your hard drive enclosure apart, then removed your hard drive and connect with the external adapter. Usually comes with a SATA or IDE connector for data and power adapter. After connecting everything plug into your PC and it should be able to recognize.
Good Luck#

Cannot copy files to Iomega 500 GB external hard drive.

It depends on how you formatted the the drive.
If it was formatted FAT it will work on both Mac and PC.
If you formatted to HFS+ (the native mac format) then it will only work on a mac.

Simpletech 500 GB external hard drive - unresponsive

If you really can not get it to work anymore, you could try opening it up and connecting the hdd directly on a IDE/SATA port in your computer. This will only work if you have a desktop, for a laptop you would need all kinds of converters.

Did you add another drive to that computer? it sounds like the hard drive has taken on a different drive letter and you have a program that has the drive letter specified. check to make sure the drives letter didnt change.

Iomega 250 GB external stopped working

This is really not a solution, but you should all try to connect your iomega to a imac, and use the Disk Utility (in Utilities folder), if you have any luck the hard drive will be recognized and you will be able to format it

please check the power rating and the amperage rating

you will get it as 500ma or 1amp or 1.5amp.
and as 12 volts.
so a adapter with specifications of 12v DC. 1.5 AMPS WILL WORK.

IF 1.5 AMPS IS NOT AVAILABLE USE 1 AMP THIS SHOULD ALSO WORK

IF YOU FAIL SEND THE DRIVE TO ME....
