Question about Amana Refrigerators
The flap that is supposed to block the opening has a spring that returns it to it's closed position.
The problem is most likely that the pin that retains the flap up inside the ceiling of the dispenser housing has broken away from the tabs.
There is a repair kit that you will need to get if this is the case. You can access the area by removing the dispenser trim and then the control bracket (grasp trim and pull forward to disengage, control bracket has retaining tab on left and right side). This will allow you to see what is broken inside the dispenser area.
If you do find that the steel pin at the top is broken you can order the repair kit that contains a new design steel bracket that gets installed into the top of the dispenser area to retain the pin.
I will be honest that the repair kit is a pain in the neck even for me to install.
The repair kit part number is: 8201756 and costs about $100 on average.
Good luck with this!
