LaCie 250GB Ethernet Disk Mini (30...

I've had this unit for a few years. It was connected to a router via ehternet cable. About 6 months ago it stopped powering up. It would only power up when connected to a computer via USB. So I've had it hooked up that way since then. Now tonight the blue power light began flashing quickly. I powered down the computer and the LaCie unit also powered off. Upon starting up the computer the unit would not power up. The blue power light flashed very faintly but the power button will not start it up.

I had read somewhere that the power unit and/or on/off mechanism in it sometimes fails. Is there a way to repair that? Or assuming that it's dead is there is a way I can get the data off the disk? Could a professional repair man open it up and hook it up to another unit or computer and copy the data off it? Any hints or suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks!

-   I had the same problem, but in my case with an Iomega 1Tb drive. The problem lies in the power supply. I have 2 drives so changing the power supply solved the problem. I will now go to the shop to get a new one (warrenty).-   Apple01

-   Very similar problem with my 500G Lacie Ethernet Disk. Won't power up, the blue light flashes momentarily, but disk nor fan won't start. Wrong side of warranty (2.5 years old) I took it apart and inserted the disk in my PC. Good news is that the disk works and is found by the PC, bad news is that formatting not recognized (assume this is due to Linux Lacie formatting), so can't retrieve data from it.

Could it be the AC Adopter? I measured the pins and output is 17.5V and 3.97V, far away from the specs on 15V and 5V. Can't find a place to buy a new AC Adapter...(Model ACU057-0512). Any help or suggestions apprectiated, thanks. -   Hans D

-   I also have a LaCie Ed Mini external ethernet/usb 250GB hard disk drive that will no longer power up. I have had it for about 2 years and have had it under my lounge tv connected to my wireless router via an ethernet cable so that it operates as a wireless network hard drive.  I kept it on almost constantly so that I could access the files from anywhere in the house whenever required (i.e. without having to make the trip to the lounge to turn it on first).

I recently knocked it and it started to make a whirring noise that obviously did not sound right.  Therefore, I turned it off to see if that would remedy the issue.  Unfortunately this did not work as I can no longer turn it on. When I press the power on button, the light (which indicates it is turned on) flashes on monetarily only.  The disk does not start up and it does not produce any sound/noise.
This sounds very much like the problem Johnsepu had.   Johnsepu - did you find a solution to your problem?  Did you manage to recover your data?  Any advice would be gratefully recieved. -   eco7tjad

Hi
External drives of this type are usually internal drives with case power supply etc. You should be able to open the box remove hard drive connect as a 2nd hard drive to PC either sata or ide depending on drive PC should recognise drive at boot up then you can access files and back up to CD, DVD, hard disk. If you are not comfortable doing this usually local PC repair shop will do for small charge. Assuming of course that the hard drive itself is not dead, just the power supply for the external case.
Hope this helps
