My ZZR 400 has no power. I've replaced the jets .

Hi there and welcome to fixya,

I can share with your sentiment there. Here's are some of my ideas, you'll need to be patient enough though.

the jets you used, is it the stock replacement or a bigger one? I would recommend using the stock jets to eliminate the possibility of it being the cause. Tune your engine using a timing light, synchronize the carburetors so each intake manifold receives the same amount of fuel on throttle. Drain the fuel form the carb reservoir (or clean the whole carbs including the jets). Adjust the air-fuel mix to standard or 2.5 -3.5 turns out. Check for hose dents and check for proper plug firing.

Make sure cylinder compression is also good otherwise you'll suffer power loss on peak RPMs at high speeds.

The above process should eliminate any possibility with regards engine idling and poor idling.

To answer your question regarding valve clearance you'll need to download the manual to assist you on dissassembly. You'll need to remove the top cover on the engine and use a feeler gauge for adjustments. I'm not sure how to find the TopDeadCenter of this particular bike but the manual should.

Hope this in any helps you out,

Do not have problem I have bought a pre loved bike and would just like to get a manual so my daughter knows how to work the gears correctly

If you go to my tips and tricks page there is a link to generic bike manuals for bikes with gears and without. These will provide all the basic instruction.

After that any bike shop will be happy to show your daughter how to work the shifters and brakes of her bike properly, and maybe even give some other useful tips like how to oil the chain or pump up the tires so she is riding safe.

Derestrict? Do you mean you want it to go faster. These bikes are not designed to fly. My daughter learned to ride on one of these bikes. It barely went 60 mhp. Its not a good idea to raise the rpm on such a small motor . Enjoy it as it is or get a bigger bike.

How do you know you should go with a bigger main jet? What exactly would it do for my 2001 YZ 125?

a bigger main jet will make the bike run richer which means more gas.
unless you have changed something on the bike which would involve a bigger main jet like porting or something like that. I wouldn't mess with the jetting.
if you are trying to get the bike tuned properly, there is an adjustment screw on the carb, but I would put it in the hands of a pro.
You can easily blow your bike up messing with jetting.

you might need to adjust your back suspension. check you owners manual for the ride height or the bike shop you got it from. or try to avoid the bigger bumps.

Fairly used suzuki bandit

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Most used 250s are ridden hard either as a starter bike or forced to max out playing catchup with bigger bikes. But unless abused, they tend to have longer usable life than the bigger ones. Often areas that would need your attention/check would be:
  • condition/level of the engine oil. An oil change would do no harm;
  • brake pads (front & rear);
  • carb and tank condition, A rebuilt/clean is a wise action;
  • sparkplug check/replacement. Note the color/condition of the ends of the plugs;
  • valve check/adjustment;
  • electrical system check which includes battery/terminals, major connectors (high amperage), regulator;
  • chain and sprocket. If adjusted against the stops, might be time for a replacement of the set;
  • fork oil seal.
Even if there are somethings you feel like needing work, the general judge wold be how you like riding the bike. Your body, sense of balance and riding style would dictate which if ever would need priority work/replacement/checking over.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
