Wait until the mower cools off
1. Remove the drive belt cover from the top of the mower
2. Tip the mower up, being careful to not go too far or the oil and fuels may spill out
3. Remove the mower blade - as I recall the bolt is 5/8" (could be 9/16") You will have to hold the blade from turning (if you have impact tools, this will be much easier)
4. Remove the blade
5. Pull the pulley out or off and remove the belt - be careful to not lose the crankshaft "woodruff" key - it's the little piece of half/moon shaped metal that keeps the pulley from spinning on the crankshaft.
6. Reverse the steps to reinstall
You MUST make sure the blade is tight when you reinstall it. Also, the blade usually fits over a couple of pins - make sure they are lined up properly and the blade is installed right-side up.

You will have to disconnect the deck from the tractor. There might be some rods hanging down by the pulley on the motor. You have to loosen those not remove. Then install the new belt with the inside of belt (V) into the pulleys. The outside of belt (flat side) goes up against any idlers (oversized pulleys). Once you get the belt routed properly the belt will be snug in the pulleys. If you have excess play you have to use trial and error to get the belt routed the right way around the idlers.
Once belt is on reattach the deck and tighten the rods by the motor that keeps the belt from comming off. They need to be close but not touching the engine pulley.
Good luck and let me know if this helps.

Go to this URL:
On the left side of the page there are a few items for maintaining your mower. One shows how to change the drive belt for a front drive and one shows for the rear drive. Click on the one you have and it will show you how to accomplish this task. Be sure to either tighten the belt so it does not fall off again, or if it is bad, replace the belt. Please follow all safety instructions.

Go to this website:
Type in 71243 in the search. You want to click on the red tab that says "manuals". Look for the english version, if that is your preference. Click on the red text and it will open up a .pdf with your operators manual. Think it was on page 33 that gave belt lace instructions.
