In all probability , the unit is in "protect" mode. This means that a problem was detected in the output section and the receiver shuts down to prevent further damage. Expect a parts cost in the range of $30-$60 along with the local labor rate.

Why can I only select one set of speakers at a time ?

Press the speaker buttons you require at the same time! Not one at a time.

So if you want A & B then press both buttons together.

check the integrity of speaker systems,

check the receiver internal components, pay close attention to the

capacitors, possibly have dried up or swollen (age)

Check for continuity to the speaker outputs.

These may take some time, but I hope you will make it.

Pioneer receiver sx 316 shuts off after a few moments of being turned on

Mine is having this problem now.

Tried re-inserting the speaker wires.
Tried resetting before it shuts off.
Tried disassembling but solder joins are still nice.

It still shuts off soon after power up. Time to spend money? :(

Pioneer sx-255r can i connect 6 - 8 ohms

Yes, you can use them but be careful. These are not necessarily robust speakers. If they sound strained, back off.

Can't find part needed.(Pioneer SX 1250 volume control part # ACV-169. Is there a replacement

Your only recourse at this time is to check with local servicers that may have one around in their old stock. Or check Ebay for a parts machine that you can salvage one from. I believe that the volume control from an SX-850 will be the same, so you can search for one of those as well.

Good luck.

if you are hearing noises from inside the amp, then something is burning up. Your sense of smell may be a guide here too. I suggest taking the amp to a tech to repair it unless you have had some experience with repairing amps
