Hi,
Disconnect the machine for few minutes say 15 minutes and then turn it ON. Check,if the tray would open.If not, kindly mention few more details :-
1. Is there any CD inside?
2. When did you use it last time?
3. Is there any error message, you got?
Let me know,so that we could proceed.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
Thanks for your response!!
It's possible that the door is slightly off track and simply needs a slight ' pry ' to get it to open. If that does not work, unfortunately you need to open the unit. You could see, if there is a small tiny, round hole on the front of the tray assembly. Don't confuse this with the transport stop opening, which might be square. You can straighten out a paper clip, then gently insert it into the opening, and that should release your tray. Once released, gently pull forward on the tray to open it, and remove the disk.
On most occasions, i have found an issue with gearing mechanism. You need to dissemble the unit anf trying to physically locate what gear is not engaging and so on. It is always better to call manufacturer directly and ask for a quote rather than trying to DIY ( that's something different if you have the schematics and parts ).They would see, whether it is a small mechanical problem or the complete tray assembly has to be replaced.
Note - As i cannot diagnose the machine, i could only guide you with the information i have as per the data and experience.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.

Have a look at the below image ( this is NOT a Philips shelf Model but give you an indication how small the hole could be - This type of hole is there on MOST of the Philips and Pioneer CD changers) :-

My system does not have a hole. Directly below the CD drawer is the plastic covering on the display area. The display never shows drawer 2, only a and three. I have tried to pry the tray open but cannot get it open. It is now making a different cycling noise when plugged in.
What now?
Thanks.

If the cd trays will not open, then there is a major problem with the unit. I would contact philips.com directly. They have toll free customer support and chat for their products.
Try there first.
Have you tried disconnecting the system and connecting it again and then tried to open the disc tray. Generally there is a small hole in the disc tray . Please put a straight wire or pin through it till touches the release mechanism. Press it gently till it gives a click sound and the tray will be released from the locking position. I have done it many times. Also check if the timer switch is not on as this can also lock the system tray

Thanks for your help. Here is more details. I keep it unplugged when I am not listening to radio. If I leave it plugged in I can hear it cycling, over and over and over until I unplug. Yes, there are CD's inside at least two trays. The message I get is "Open 3". Image is showing Tray One. Does this help?
Just where is this opening that I can stick a paper clip in and pry?
Thanks.
