PC not booting!

Hi, my PC will not boot. Can get in Bios setup and system start mode (F5) but as soon as I try starting up in safe mode or any other it just sits there! I have tried starting up with boot disk but that too does not work. Any ideas?

HELLO,

Maybe your system got currupted, you need to repair the windows installation. or install a fresh windows.

At first boot you may press" F2 or DElete" to enter the bios setup.. find boot order or priority booting(something like that" and then select the CD ROM for the first to boot. and then press "f10" to save nad exit...or you can shortcut it by pressing "F9" and first boot the select the CD ROM to boot.

Windows installation instruction is here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/winxp/install.mspx

The computer is not booting and I'm not sure what the problem is. It's done this before and eventually booted normally. I went into the BIOS to try to restore setting but could not find it. Help me pl

Press F5 during start up to enter safe mode and see if it boots then. CMOS values may have changed if CMOS battery is dead and values reset which means the computer no longer knows your drive type.
Try saef mode start up first then hit either DEL key or F1 to enter CMOS Bios at start up to see if Hard Drive make and size are posted.
- It's a start!

My gateway desktop model gt5026e shuts down/reboots automatically. i cleaned the cooling fans and made sure they were working properly but it still reboots at random,

To isolate the issue, try to boot to the BIOS screen by tapping on F2 on boot. If it goes to the BIOS and does not restart, you have good hardware components. If the issue is still eminent in the BIOS, then you have a problem with your processor. You need to have it replaced.
If it is not hardware, we need to further isolate. Boot to Safe Mode by tapping on F8 on boot. Choose either safe mode or safe mode with networking.
No issues on safe mode: then the problem is with the advanced software. Try to remember when the issue started. Restore your computer setting to previous date before the issue started. (start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore). Once you have booted to normal mode, do not forget to update your security software and scan your system.
If there are issues with safe mode: There is bigger problem with your OS. Try system restore as well. Hopefully this fixes the issue. If it does not, you need to reformat your system.
Good Luck!

How to start in safe mode?

While the computer is initially booting up, press F8 (repeatedly if necessary), you should be presented with a selection screen to boot into safe mode (various levels such as with or without networking) or to boot normally. The F8 key only works while the computer is going through the BIOS startup procedure.

Dell optiplex 760 won't go into safe mode

It sounds as though your PF keys are disabled by the BIOS settings. Try this:
Upon cold start or reboot get to the BIOS setup. You may have to press F2 or delete, or whatever key the first POST messages instruct you to use. Different BIOS manufacturers use different keys, and you have to be quick to interrupt the boot process using the correct key. If you fail to determine what key it is, reboot once again, until you see/read what key does the job.
Next, once you're into the setup screens, look for a section where you can set/deny access to the F8, F9, F10 etc keys during the boot process.
Make sure you ENABLE them, following the instructions on what keys to use to set/reset these choices. Make sure you SAVE AND EXIT.
On the next reboot, upon the disappearance of all POST messages, make sure you press the F8 key repeatedly until you see your OS boot options menu, among which you'll find Safe Mode.
Good luck!

To change the boot order to the CD drive you will need to access the bios, to do this you will need to restart the pc and hit either Esc or Del as the pc starts up, once in the bios change the boot order to the CD drive as the first boot device, save the changes and exit the bios, the computer will restart and boot from the CD drive.

My hp lap top keeps going into option safe mode then shows me the first screen windows xp then goes back to option safe mode and other options

Hi,

It is possible that your system boot was setup to safe mode everytime it boots up. You may try the steps below.

1. Boot your system to safe mode.

2. Go to Start then Run

3. On the run box type msconfig

4. Look for the tab boot.ini , under this tab uncheck the box that says safeboot then click apply

5. Restart the computer.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

Try to boot in safe mode by pressing F8 while the system is booting.

Once in safe mode, use system restore to restore your computer state to an earlier date when this problem was not present.

Turn on computer can't get out of the safe mode screen the computer will not boot up in any mode

hi you can try this , Restart the computer.
At the first startup screens, press the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup Menu appears.
Select Normal Startup.
If the computer still starts in safe mode, go to the next step.
  1. Disconnect all peripherals attached to the computer.
  2. Restart the computer twice.
    1. If Windows does not start in safe mode, re-attach one peripheral at a time until you find the peripheral that is causing the problem. Refer to the peripheral's support to see if there are any known issues and resolutions for this problem.

    3. Turn the PC off, wait about ten seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    4. Press the F1 key repeatedly during the first logo screen (This keypress may be different on some computer models).
    5. Press the F5 key and then press the Enter key to set the setup defaults.
    6. Press the F10 key and then press Enter to save the settings and exit.
