Question about Dell Vostro 1000

My dell voster 1000 screen won't turn on, the computer it self will, but nothing will come up on the screen not even the back light!

Please run the built-in LCD test. You can do that by holding onto the D key, turn on the computer (don't release yet until something came out.) You should be able to see different blocks of colors to show that its good. However, if nothing comes up, connect an external monitor which would isolate the problem that we have. If display comes up then its definitely your LCD. Other than that it can be something else. Please let me know of the outcome in case we can provide an alternative solution. Thank you and regards.

hi,
I have several of these and most often there power supplies blow. since they come by default with only one powser supply. the system won't start
I would start there as most other problems will generate beeps.

After turning on it won't boot up past the "Dell" screen



You can check the hardware in the computer. by doing the self assesment.

1. turn off the computer.
2. At the Dell logo screen, press <F12>.
3. At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, then press <Enter> to begin PSA.
4. Write down any error codes listed.

Voster a860 unexpected shutdown problem


Did you tryed to remove RAM-MEMORY?If not so do it..

Or see if power suply stops working

My dell vostro 1000 won't turn on the green light


Try to do this: (Draining flea power)
1. Unplug the ac adapter (if connected)
2. Remove the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
4. Put back the battery and ac adapter
5. Turn it on

- check if you can now boot to windows, if not there could be a hardware problem and next step would be running some diagnostic test on the computer for hardware problem.

No light in screen


It seems that your battery is totally empty, Take the battery off and plug your laptop straight to the adapter and try, make sure the adapter is working fine, if nothing happen check the board.

LCD Monitor Blank/Non-Responsive - Dell E173FPC


Next thing I would check is the VGA cable between PC and monitor.

Make sure is in at both ends and if possible try another one.

Do the Dell Menus come up with no VGA cable plugged in? Is the light amber? Flashing or static?

Update Dell Vostro 1000 BIOS now wont turn on, nothing on display


You may be in for some trouble, a failed bios update isn't always an easy fix. if you can find the cmos battery try to remove that for a few seconds. you will also need a disk version of the bios, download that from dell on another computer and copy it to floppy or cd and see if you can boot to that and reinstall the bios.

when you press the power button what happens, does it light up and run the fan? Nothing appears on the screen?

Self-Test Feature Check (STFC) Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. The floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green and the self-test pattern will scroll through the screen continually.
  4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

u need to reset the bios to factory defaults..this would fix your problem
