Gaffers and Sattler vintage stove oven pilot 1956 W54 series similar problem

After we moved our Gaffers and Sattler W5494 stove, nothing I could do would light the oven or broiler pilots, although they were working fine before, and all top burners are working fine...I have the original manual, it implies that all you need to do is "light the pilot on oven" but says nothing about a reset switch and no reset switch is found anywhere...pilot gas goes to top burners directly, no safety valve, but is there a safety valve for the oven and broiler? Why would they both suddenly stop lighting? Is is something electrical? There is no smell of gas. To clean pilots is the obvious, but does not solve the problem...someone, please help! the safety valve appears to only control the actual gas to the oven from the thermostat, but has nothing to do with the continous pilot. thank you, cody and florence, venice, CA

If you lift up the griddle, or the burner trays, then if you look along the sides toward the back of the range, you should see a button on each side. Usually the buttons are red. They are easy to spot. Assuming that the pilots is lit in your over, and in your broiler, then depress the red button while turning on the gas. Do this once for the oven, and once for the broiler. If everything is working right, then you should not have any more problems.

My mother had the same problem with her Gaffers-Sattler range. No one could figure out what was wrong with it. Her local new appliance repair people said to contact J.E.S. Enterprises, Inc at www.theoldapplianceclub.net. Whew; thank God for that tip. They knew exactly what the problem was and repaired the unit for her. The stove is running again like a workhorse! Here is their number - 805-643-3532.

I have an early 70's Magic Chef series VI oven/stove. The stove works fine. The oven takes about 30 minutes to light. When oven knob is turned pilot works fine. There is no gas odor before the oven lights.

My model is a UA119A-2W and I cannot find a place to light the oven pilot. Nor can I find a copy of the owner's manual anywhere online. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a Garland stove series #G286, the oven won't stay lit.

Can't find the oven pilot on an old Gaffers and Sattler "Energy Saver Range with Uni Burners"

With the help from your site I was able to hold a match under the bar under the oven shelf toward the back and light the pilot. I am SO grateful. I hadn't been able to see it but just held a match toward the back, and it lit.

Gas oven dosnt work

the pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.

Gaffers & Sattler stove

The pilot is under the bottom oven deck, usually you can lift the front edge, and slide it out, smelling gas without a pilot would be bad, that means either A : your safety is bad, and allowing gas to flow anyway, which requires replacement, and you may as well replace the thermocouple, and clean the pilot. or B : it is old enough it does not have a protected pilot, and you have to manually light it, usually indicated by an open hole in the front middle of the oven deck plate when you open the door, with a tube going to the burner. or C : your oven burner is bad or misaligned with the burner, and is shooting gas away from the pilot area, it would light via an open pilot eventually, but you don't want that. Please let us know, or have a qualified servicer look at it. Happy New Year, and thank you.

Pilot lights

you need to plug the oven in; pull it out and you should locate the pwr cord or you may already have it plugged in and have a breaker turned off or a gfi tripped

Garland stove pilot light problem, again but different

I'm not familiar with Garlands. When I run into a similar problem with other stoves of that vintage (Wedgewoods, etc.) I trace the pilot lines piece by piece, from the manifold to the pilot burner, if necessary opening a connection or two to see where I'm getting gas and where I'm not.

Is there a needle valve for adjusting the pilot flame? Is there gas getting all the way to the pilot burner? When it's the pilot burner itself that's the problem, I take it apart, brush/blow/shake out the crud, and run a small drill (#79 or so) through the orifice.
