Amplifier power cutting out

I have a Marantz PM-80 amplifier, it turns on but when Class A is switched on the volume drops down to very low, also when not in Class A if volume is turned to over 1/4 level the amp cuts out ie: switches off the comes back on in 2 seconds, it does this until volume is turned right down. Can you help?
Thanks...Vanch

I hear what you are saying but if not enough power then what is preventing amp getting enough power. As for 'too hot' it can't be too hot when problem occurs from cold start. Amps location is in the open so not too hot. I think it seems to be a power supply problem, amp turns itself off then clicks back on again as stated in previous message. Could it be a faulty fuse causing this??

    Thanks...MONARO V8

Not enough power to amp and or amps location is too hot might want to invest in a couple cooling fans from computer store and attach where needed

an amp should take up to 3/4 load but when not enough air to it to cool it off it will shut down

try this turn gain all the way down and slowly work up too desired amp volume setting

its speaker setup class A is the lower ohm setting so it letting only so much sound out you need something like a 4 ohm speaker for class A its ment to run lower sounds and im sure you have bigger speakers on class A

    its like a car amp

higher the ohm's say for ohms the more power is needed lower the ohm's less power needed its a simple switch speakers around so class A wont be over powered this leads to its over heating and saftey shutoff

you might low end speakers but this sterio should be pushing bigger speakers for this kind of watts high end speakers

High-end Marantz PM 80 Integrated Stereo Amplifier. This is a unique Marantz offering as it is capable of running in both Class A and Class A/B mode. Output is 20 watts per channel in Class A mode and a generous 100 watts per channel in Class A/B mode. Output is more than powerful to drive whatever high fidelity speaker you might have

Marantz problems

The speakers are 8ohms. Always try using speakers 6 or 4ohms. For B&W 683 on PM 6004 is too low. You should go for PM 7000 or 8000 series to catchup with 683. Also when you increase the volume please decrease the bass as well.
You need 8ohm 55w to 90w or 4ohm 80w to 110w speakers.

Hi Strange problem with Marantz pm7001 When ever I turn the volume upto around 1/3 and 1/2 of the way, the amp cuts out and reset it self down to minimum volume. It seems like the amp ins't enough power...

What's probably happening is that the amplifier is shutting down or cutting back the volume as protection from damage. You may have a partial short in the speaker wiring that is not a problem at lower levels, but at higher ones causes the amp to see too low a load. There may a problem with a speaker or crossover component that is breaking down at higher volumes. Or something in the amp's output stage is unable to handle the load.

Test the system with a known good speaker system and length of wire and see if the trouble continues. If it does, you'll know it's the amplifier that needs to be checked. If the test speakers can reach normal volume, you can start checking the wiring and other speakers for the source of the trouble.

Can i connet my marantz ki17 amp to a power amp

Hi, i don't really understand why you want to connect an amplifier to an amplifer.
Might be that you want to get a louder volume or ?don't know.

I don't think there is any need for you too connect marantz ki17 amp to a power am. Both do the same work, but might have different watts.
So you will need to check what you want to connect with the amplifier first and check the watts that can carry it without interference from the amplifier.

I guess that would do the magic.

Have a nice day.

After a move and something doesn't work that could have before, it's always best to check inside for signs of damage. It might just be a bad soldering joint, so it could be just a small amount of damage.

Hi

First thing to check is to see if someone has turned on the Tape Monitor has been turned on by someone. The symptoms you describe certainly sound like it. Check that out and get back to me if it does not solve the problem

Marantz pm 7200

Could be a power supply failure or a Power "On" switch failure.
