The cmos battery is usually a silver round one on the motherboard. You'd need to open up the laptop completely to find it. That may prove difficult so careful not to pull at any connected leads as it comes open.

How to chang bios settings password intel Dg43nb board i m loss my bios password

All mother board has a CMOS, complementary metal oxide semiconductor, battery. The main purpose for the CMOS battery is to store the system time, date and bios settings even if the computer is turned off or the main battery dies.
Turn off the computer (laptop) unplug it. Remove the Phillips screws that secure the motherboard cover then release the cover from the clips on the bottom of the plastic casing. Lay the cover aside then locate the CMOS battery cable on the right side of the motherboard. Unplug the cable then remove the battery. After a few minutes plug the CMOS battery into the motherboard... Replace the screws then turn the computer (laptop) back over. The CMOS battery is unplugged for more than a few minutes your BIOS will be reset to the default manufacturer settings. (Password removed) now you can set new password for your bios..

Can you turn off the password on the motherboard

The best and easiest method: Close OS and shut down the electricity power of computer. Open your computer box (Make sure you have your manual handy), LOCATE THE CMOS BATTERY (it is look like a silver Small coin) take out the CMOS battery from the main board ( note: Before taking out the battery make sure that you already touch metal object to remove static electricity) . Then once you take out that the bios password will be reset to blank. Put it back after a few minutes. Same process as what you did when you take it out. Hope this help. Good Luck

My Laptop is Dellstudio15,When I swith on my laptop is showing error while booting it self is: Check date and time settings,System CMOS Checksum is Bad.Please help on this.

This error message means that its time for you to replace you CMOS battery.

CMOS battery is a small battery on the system board that provides power to the Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) chip, even while the computer is turned off. This chip contains information about the system configuration (e.g., hard disk type, floppy drive types, date and time, and the order in which the computer will look for bootable disks). The CMOS battery allows the CMOS to preserve these settings.

Hope this information willbe helpful. Thank you for using FIXYA.

Where is the cmos battery located in the computer??????????

#1
Turn off the laptop and remove the AC adapter. Remove the battery from its compartment on the bottom of the computer. Turn the laptop over and remove the screws holding the DVD drive in place and pull out the DVD drive.
#2
Remove the remaining screws on the bottom of the computer. These screws secure the wireless card cover, the memory card cover and the modem card cover. Then remove all of the plastic covers. Remove the wireless card by sliding it gently out.
#3
Remove the corner screws on the bottom of the laptop securing the bottom housing. Remove the housing by pulling it away from the laptop. Remove any remaining, exposed screws on the bottom of the computer.
#4
Turn the laptop over and remove the thin plastic strip that runs along the border of the keyboard with your fingernails. If your fingernails aren't long enough, a plastic card will work as well.
#5
Remove the two screws on either side of the keyboard securing it to the computer. Remove the keyboard.
#6
Remove all of the exposed screws where the keyboard used to sit. These screws secure the top housing to the computer. Remove the housing, exposing the motherboard.
#7
Locate the CMOS battery. It is a small battery about the size and shape of a coin and should be easily visible on the board. Depending on the model of Toshiba you are working on, the CMOS battery will either be secured with a clip or connected to the board by two small cables. Either way, they are easily removable.
#8
Disconnect the battery by pulling gently away from the cables or by popping the clip out. Your CMOS battery can now be removed

The CMOS battery is located underneath the keyboard as well as one of the two memory slots. To get at it, you have to remove the “Hinge Cover” and then the Keyboard.
To remove the “Hinge Cover” (The hinge cover has the ON/OFF button) follow these steps:
1) Remove the battery and AC power.
2) In the battery bay you’ll see 2 small Phillips screws. Remove these screws.
3) Turn the laptop right side-up and using a small screwdriver, pry up on the notch on the right side of the hinge cover.
4) Lift and remove the hinge cover from the laptop.
5) Carefully lift the keyboard and gently slide it towards the LCD. (CAUTION! The keyboard is connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable. Be careful not to damage the cable on the underside of the keyboard.)
6) The CMOS battery is located on the right side of a small white ribbon cable. It’s about the size of a small coin.
Hope this helps.

CMOS

The cmos on the Pavilion is going to be in one of three places, and will be one of two styles of battery. The cmos style will be either a large watch type battery about the size of a nickle located in a slot on the mother board, or in a yellow or greenish pouch with two wires leading to a connector, located under a cover on the bottom of the machine, or under the keyboard.

Ibm screen error

161 - Dead CMOS battery.
163 - Date and time are not set clock not updated.

Replace CMOS Batt: On the bottom of the laptop you will see a screw that holds the memory cover on. (Next to the main Batt) Remove the screw and cover. The CMOS is plugged into the motherboard it is yellow and round tucked in the side of the case. (note how the black cable is towards the center of the laptop and the positive red cable is towards the side of the laptop). Remove the cable connector from the motherboard and pull out the old battery. This can be done by either gently pulling on the cables or using an object like a toothpick and gently tugging at the old battery to free it. With the old battery removed plug in the new battery with the black ground cable towards the center of the laptop and the red towards the side of the laptop. Insert the new battery into the space the previous one set at. Reconnect the memory cover and turn on your laptop. You will have to set the time and date and may have to cycle the computer (reboot) a few times. You can get this battery (CMOS) on eBay or at a computer store they are only a few dollars. (5-8) Good luck in your repair!
you need a cr2025 to replace it you have to pull the tabs of the old one off and tape them to a new cr2025 battery.
then
Start with the machine OFF. HOLD DOWN and CONTINUE TO HOLD THE "F1" key. WHILE STILL HOLDING "F1", turn the power on, and CONTINUE TO HOLD "F1"
This will get you into the bios "setup." You should check the date, bootup order, etc, and reset.
