My Kenmore 80 series washer shakes uncontrollably in spin cycle.
We have just replaced the coupling in the direct drive because the machine was not spinning out. Now when we turn it on it shake violently. Have we forgot to connect something or is there a spring broken somewhere?

Re: My Kenmore 80 series washer shakes uncontrollably in...
the washer needs to be leveled on a flat surface to properly function rock forwards then backwards
washing machine have stablizers on there leg pegs this insures it has a proper setting on floor
if this did not help there is a spring under neith that you did not load back to bucket to keep in place
most likely it just needs to be rocked you will know if pegs are seated properly

You need to replace the drive block and basket drive. You can download a tutorial to get you started at www.shop.washermd.com. The gearcase replacement tutorial will put you in the right direction. Dave
it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem.
worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.
