Try to look for a wireless switch on the computer. Sometimes, the wireless switch is located on the side or on top of the function keys (it sometimes shows as a slide switch or a button with a radio signal/ radio waves).

You can try to contact your computer manufacturer to ask where the wireless switch on the computer is located.

Why the f8 key dont work in my pc?

What type of computer ?

What are you trying to do ?

Enter safe mode ?
Because of the small amount of space available, many smaller-screened Dell laptops come with a special key known as the "Function," or "Fn" key. The purpose of this key is to double the functions of multiple keys, most commonly the F1 through F12 keys. On some Dell laptops, the F1 through F12 keys are locked from use to give way to more commonly accessed commands and program shortcuts. However, unlocking an "F" key, such as F8, is not difficult.

Press and hold the "Fn" key on your laptop's keyboard. This key will usually be shaded blue and is located in the bottom row. Press the F8 key on your keyboard while still holding the "Fn" key. This will have unlocked the F8 key. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary to unlock any other "F" keys you wish to use.

I would like to have a explanation of all the keys on the keyboard of my new Acer Aspire laptop, 721 series model MS 2298

Hello Dorka,
I believe the buttons your referring to is the Fn button along with the F1, F2, F3, etc. buttons like in the picture below. _764.jpg

They're Shortcut keys to do different functions... If you download the PDF file listed below and go to page 26 (Hotkeys)... It will give you a list of what all those keys do.http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Document/QuickStartGuide/QuickStartGuide_Acer_1.0_A_A.zip?acerid=634102702938248812&Step1=Netbook&Step2=Aspire%20One&Step3=AO721&OS=722&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_4

Hi I have installed a netgear wireless usb adapter wg111v3 onto a PC (on another PC i have a netgear DG834GT router). After installing the adapter the "signal strength" is EXCELLENT and the "status" is...

You might not be getting a correct ip from your wireless router.

first, try to power down the computer and your netgear router for about a minute or two. turn the router on first. once the lights are stable on the router, boot up your computer. if your still not able to access the internet. try this

go to start > control panel > network and internet > network connections or network and sharing center > right click on wireless network connection and go to properties > highlight "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" > left click on properties, the wireless network connnection properties will then be opened.
make sure that the radio buttons are on "obtain an ip address automaticaly" & "obtain DNS server address automaticaly".

My problem is that i cant figure out why i cant get internet on my D-Link router and i cant figure out how to scan it?

Scan for network will not work because of 2 reason

some times the Software utility causes the Problems

start - run - msconfig .. stop the services

but check the following ..

Check the Following

1) Wireless Switch of the Laptop is off (Wifi is Off)
it is located somewhere on the edge of the laptops
or Fn+F2 might turn the switch ON and OFF
2) The setting required to configure wireless connection

Check the following steps

Windows XP
1. Click on the Start Menu, and click on Control Panel.
2.Find and double-click “Network Connections” to open up the list ofconnections that your 3. computer uses to connect to the internet.
4. Right click “Wireless Network Connection” and select “Properties”.
5. Go to the “Wireless Networks” Tab
6. Check “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings”, if it isn't already.
7. Click “Add” to add a wireless profile.
* Enter in the Network name (SSID). (It was your desired SSID from Step 6 ).
* Uncheck the box “The key is provided for me automatically”.
* Put in the “Key 1” code from Step 7 into “Network key” and “Confirm network key”.
* Push “OK”
# Open Internet Explorer (with the computer connected to the Router)
# Enter 192.168.1.1 into the Address Bar, push Enter
# Leave the User Name field blank
# Under the password field enter “admin”
# Click “OK”

# Click “Wireless”
# Click “Basic Wireless Settings”
# Enter a desired name into the “Wireless Network Name (SSID)” field
# Write down your Wireless Network SSID, it will be used for later.
# Click “Save Settings”

For WEP:

* Click “Wireless”
* Click “Wireless Security”
* Select “WEP” in the “Security Mode” field
* Bubble “1” under the “Default Transmit Key” field
* Select “128 bits 26 hex digits”
* Enter a desired passphrase into the “Passphrase” field
* Click “Generate”
* Carefully write down the code generated in the “Key 1” field onpaper, and store it in a safe place. THIS IS YOUR WEP KEY, it will beneeded later on.
* Click “Save Settings”

Wireless not recognising wireless router

Are you using Windows XP? If so, pls make sure that the Wireless Zero config utility is enabled:

Start>Settings>control panel>administrative tools>services>highlight 'wireless zero configuration utility>click 'start the service'.

Then you will need to go back and open the page for network connections, view available wireless networks, click on advanced, check box 'Use windows to configure my wireless connection', click ok.

After this, do you see any networks in that screen?

Cannot connect to internet

hopefully you have'nt give the pc the same ip address as the other as it won't connect.

You will need to make sure that DHCP is enabled within the routers settings as this will tell the router to assign ip addresses automatically, then go to network connections, right click on your wireless network card>properties>TCP/IP line>properties and tick 'obtain an ip address automatically', click ok, close window and restart pc.

Open up internet explorer>tools>internet options>connections tab and ensure that never dial a connection is ticked or the option greyed out, close I.E. then open up again, click refresh and it should connect.

Can't Connect to the Internet

Hi,

Two things you can try before trying your browser/Internet connection:
1. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection Icon, click on Repair. Allow the computer time to repair its WiFi connection and some other settings;
2. Right click on the Wireless Network Connection Icon, click on Status. Click on properties button, select TCP/IP (Internet Protocol), click on Properties button, verify that the option "Obtain IP address automatically is ticked, OK, OK.
3. In your browsers, verify/modify settings:
In Mozilla, click on Tools, Options, Advanced tab, Network tab, Settings button, tick "Auto-detect proxy settings for this connection, OK, OK;
In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, LAN settings button, check "Automatically detect settings" (& pls make sure there is no check mark on the Proxy server), OK, Advance tab, check Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections.
In Opera, Tools, Preferences, Advanced tab, Network, Proxy server buttons, check "Enable HTTP 1.1 for proxy, OK, OK.

Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information. Hope that this be of some help/idea.

Good luck and kind regards.
