SOURCE: Can I remove rust from drum with a scrubbie for temporary fix?

I'd use the brush to clean the spots down to bare metal then use something like Rust-Oleum appliance touch up paint (multiple coats) to cover the problem areas.

The Rust-Oleum costs about $4.00 .

In order to get access to the tub, see the following:

In order to get the agitators out, you need to remove the "Spanner Nut" and "Drive Block".

Many instructions call for a special spanner wrench to remove the nut. However,

You don't need a special spanner wrench. (About $20 retail)

I've used a short 10" pipe wrench (About $9 also good for cracking walnuts) hooked around one of the tabs on the spanner nut and tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen it.

Also, don't directly hit the drive block with a hammer (it's soft metal). Put a short piece of wood under the drive block and tap it up with a hammer.

You can then lift the drum out and more easily work on it.

SOURCE: Hi, My thomson wash machine's cover is slowly

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

So sorry but this FixYa Washer Forum does not supply service centre numbers, engineers, spares or prices; it is just made up of ordinary guys and gals, probably at home, from all over the world, with experience of addressing problems and giving guidance for free on the web ;-0)
Also members on Fixya are not 'affiliated' to, or representative of, any manufacturer at all, just using their experience gained probably over many years.

You will either have to search in your local telephone directories OR stay on line and search for '(make) washer service' for instance or '(make) washer spares' and hope that you can find someone reasonably local.
Sorry again ;-0(

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks, warmest regards to you too and good luck!

Lots of water in the boot, mainly accumulated into the spare tyre holding space after rain. Carpet is mostly dry except the edge near the boot opening. The cover board edge nearby is also wet.

There are a couple of obvious reasons for this. If the water is getting in when the car is not moving tghen it is almost certainly the boot lid not beeing corectly positioned or that the rubber seal around the boot is damaged / not fitted corectly. Get a thin piece of card and shut it between boot lid and rubber, if it moves freely along there is a gap (you need to rtry this all the way around the boot). Start inbetween the hinges, the go to 1 side. Repeat for all sides. If it is loose look at bolts on hinges to see if they have moved from original position, you will see marks in the paint around the bolt heads if it has moved. Try loosening the bolts and moving the boot lid until the blots are in the original position. Do 1 at a time and do not remove bolts. If there is no sign of the boot lid being moved you need to inspect the rubber to make sure that it is seated correctly and that it has not perished or been cut anywhere. To stop wheel rusting lift out of whhel well and put some timber in the bottom to lift the wheel out of any water.
Hope this helps. If there is a gap, loosen bolts on one side wshere the hinge is fastened to car and push downon the top of the hinge, this should tighten that side, then repeat for the other hinge. Note if there arte 3 hinges start on one side and move accross in turn.

The lid to my whirlpool cabrio top loading washing machine will not open completely???

Hello. How old is your washer? Is there rust around the bleach dispenser near the left side hinge? What probably has happened is the hinge assembly underneath the top cover has rusted from the contact with chlorine and or fumes. These washers are notorious for rusting at the hinges, especially near the bleach dispenser. The parts involved are:
left hinge arm--w10389421
right hinge arm--w10389240
left hinge spring assembly--w10358931
right hinge spring assembly--w10358932
top cover--w10391067--if this needs to be replaced, call for service--it's a solid hour to 90 minute job for an experienced tech! You have to transfer ALL THE PARTS to the new cover and it's INVOLVED--trust me! If there is rust around the bleach dispenser and underneath the top cover, you might check your serial number with Whirlpool to see if you can get a new top cover for free covered by a service bulletin dealing with rusting. To raise the top cover, remove the top screws from the hinges on the rear of the washer holding down the top cover. Then, remove the screw and metal plate protecting the wire harness and pressure hose and set it aside. Next, from the front, slide the top cover forward 1/2 inch and lift up. Have a friend assist you in holding up the top cover. You can now access the hinges mounted underneath, check for rust, and also see how the suspension rods are mounted(they are very easy to remove since there is a slot in each rod holder located at each corner at the side of the tub near the bottom. You would pull up on the tub, release the top of the rods first, then reach down and unsnap the plastic clips(2) in the center of each holder. Use a headlamp or flashlight to see. The rod will drop down and can be removed through the slot. Reverse the procedure to install.
Also, in case your suspension rods get worn out(the tub has a hobby horse "bouncy" movement), the part number for the set of 4 is w10368625. The proper way to check the rods is to place your hands on the right and left side of the tub ring(the plastic cover over the basket) and shove smartly down and release--the tub should grip going down and pull coming up--no springy movement--just like shock absorbers on a car. It should come up and settle. If it has any bounce at all, the rods are worn--symptoms will be increased out of balance errors or the washer might start banging during spin. I hope this helps you. If you are hesitant about performing any of the repairs above, please call for service!

Problem with 2004 bmw 330 CI

It could be rust on the brake disc's , slacken wheel nuts and jack up your car safely and secure with axle stand or stands , remove wheel and inspect brake discs , you will probably find a build up of rust has formed on the edge of the brake disc , firstly get a pair of goggles to protect your eyes , get either old flat file and a good wire brush , clean around the disc , caliper and back plate , once you have cleaned off the excess dirt and rust then put the fille in between the brake caliper and dust cover and hold firm against the brake disc and rotate the disc , this will remove the rust and this needs to be down on all edges ,to remove any high spots of rust this will probably cure your problem this is best done on all brake discs ,

Why is my frigidaire washing machine model # ltf2140fs2 door is hard to shut and the hinges are rusted

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the door on your Frigidaire washer, model# LTF2140FS2, is hard to shut and the hinges are rusted. There could be a possibility that there is a leak that is rusting the hinges. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose your appliance and determine why the door won't shut and why the hinges are rusted. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Rust in gas tank

Not much you can do for this problem. The acid that attacks rust is phosphoric acid. and will be a starting point. IF the rust is flaky put some sharp edged pebbles in it and shake hard to help remove loose rust. (like sand blasting by hand). Use no other acids as they will attack the metal and not the rust. The stronger the phosphoric acid concentration the better. Can be obtained from large hardware stores as a rust converter.

My barbeque has been stood under a cover for a year & the two plates which you cook on have gone rusty. Is it possible to buy replacements or how do you suggest cleaning them?

You can buy proprietary rust removers at your local hardware store but try this first. Remove as much rust as you can with a scrubbing pad or wire wool. Pour vinegar on the plates and rub it into the rust. Try not to let it run over the edges of the plateAllow it to soak for 15 minutes to dissolve the rust and then rub away the residue. If this doesn't remove all the rust you can try scrubbing with a paste of bread soda. You can also try scrubbing with a paste made from salt but the disadvantage with salt is that it can cause corrosion if you don't clean it all off afterwards.

Leaking oil from reart diff

Where is it leaking from? Around the edges of the cover?
You may need to make a new gasket for it.
Drain oil by remove lower bolts and slightly prying on cover so fluid starts draining.
Slowly make your way up to the top bolts until it's completely empty.
Remove cover, clean old gasket off housing and cover.
Attain gasket maker from any auto store, and spread a even amount around edge of housing, where the cover and housing touch..
Replace cover, fill with oil, and see if this stops the leaking. If not, you may have just rusted out the cover, after years of wear and rust (depending on the year of the vehicle) and may need to simply replace the cover.

Only major problem is it would be leaking from the side or where the drive shaft enters the housing, which would require new seals, and a bit more work!

I hope this helps!

I own 1991 corsica lt. The hinge for the gas cover has rusted off. Searched the internet and was unsuccessful, can you help?

Call local junkyards, or auto recycling centers as they are now called, and find one that has a car like yours. It is nearly 20 now so you may not be successful. Craigslist is also handy for this, and you may find some on ebay. When you find a similar car, and this part is not in the same rusted condition on that car, you will have to pay them something to remove it and sell it to you. Often the body itself has rusted away where the hinge attaches so a patch from the rear has to be welded or riveted in.You always have to weigh the cost of repair against the value of the car. While unsightly, a missing gas door lid "don't affect the runnin' of it none".

assuming that this is not stainless steel model, for that shouldnt be rusting. but that being said if you look closly at the underside of the facade surrounding hte dispensor youll see 2 little slits approx. an inch in from either side along the bottom, gently pry off with a screwdriver from theses points,( should twist off and lift up, to reinstall simply "hang " on top clips and snap back down into positon.

Rust on Jenn Air Refrigerator Door at Water Dispenser

You may end up respraying the door, but here goes.-

First mechanically remove as much of the rust as you can with an old screwdriver or similar scraper. Then use coarse emery cloth - 80 -120 grit untill all you're left with is shiny metal with rust pits.
You may need to go out further than you think - about 1" all round.

Then use a paint- on de-rusting fluid from vehicle products supplier. When all rust is black or dissapeared, use a zinc primer on all the bare metal. (this will stop it reacuring)

Then either spray the area with an "appliance white" aerosol or squirt it into the cap, and use a paintbrush.

If you are spraying it, open all house windows and doors, cut a mask from newspaper- then tape it to the fridge. Use blankets , plastic dustsheet or old sheets to protect things, and spray it from 12" in several very light coats.

When done, "polish" with T cut - which should remove the rust stain too.

Seal the area of the original leak with a white or clear silicone - and sort the original leak out.

If you polish the plastic with a silicone spray, water will tend to stay put rather than seep.
