Wont read a 4gb micro sd card (by 2 users)

I'm assuming its a limitation to the operating system memory addressing? or am i doing something wrong, i put the card in and in basically just doesn't see it

I can't get get it to read the 256mb card that it came with. We are just trying to get pictures onto the phone. I am transfering JPEG photos directly to the disk. Should I simplfy the names of the photos?
