I have 18.5 horsepower twin cylinder and when its cold its cranks and runs fine till it gets hot, then it goes spitting and sputtering and goes dead, and when it cools off it will run again

It almost sounds to me like your EGR valve is full of carbon and not able to open properly so your engine is running rich.

SOURCE: My mower starts and runs great when cold but dies when hot. It will restart but won't stay running until it cools off again.

How old is your mower ? Sounds like points and condensor if older model ,or ignition module if its newer , points tend to stick together when they get old causing no spark at plug when they cool they come appart allowing it to spark again , module is sort of the same except you have no way of replacing points you have to replace module .

Vapor locking? Check the fuel lines to see if they are too close to the exhaust manifold/pipe. Check for spark when it is hot. Be careful when pulling plug wire as to not get your hand burned.

Runs good for an hour then engine begins to sputter


Once it starts sputtering carefully pull a spark plug wire off (it can shock you) and see what happens. It sounds to me like you have an ignition module issue that once it gets hot it is grounding out and then when it is sputtering it is because you are running on one cylinder

Running hot and using water also spits and sputters very bad on the top end


Check the inside of your combustion chamber and the inside of the rocker cover/ oil level. It sounds as if you have a blown head gasket.

This can be caused by a problem in the fuel pressure check valve of the fuel pump. Have a pressure leak down test run by a shop, if the system is losing pressure then the pump assembly must be replaced. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and is electric

I have a suzuki xl.7 with the 2.7 v6 recently removed most of the intake to get to the egr valve to clean it all out and replaced gasket and reassembled everything now since doing so it will crank up if it...


i think you may have not put the timing right if you have changed the head gasket or removed the timing, make sure all timing is lined up on timing marks cams and the crank. adjust till they line up using piston number one as top dead. turn engine by hand (spanner on crank) and make sure they line up each time it goes to top dead on number 1.

It runs fine in the summer when temps are warm, but when it turns cold,especially when you first crank it up, it spits and sputters and will not run. It like its not get gas


PUT A SCANNER ON IT AND CHECK THE TEMP READING FOR THE COMPUTER IT IS MORE THAN LIKLY BAD LIKE IF ITS 40 OUTSIDE THE SENSOR IS READING 90 SO IT DOESNT GIVE IT THE EXTRA FUEL IT WOULD NEED WHEN COLD
