A few options:

1. (if new / first time) fully charge - take awhile like 8 hrs or something like that - then let it sit for 15-30 mins. That is how long mine took
2. soft reset (then do #1 again) - the "button"
3. hard reset (then do #1 again) - the "switch"
4. check whether port / baud rate settings are correct (on mine, there seems to be a "hidden" button above "test"

WAITING FOR FIX...... message coming when GPS is started

Your best bet is to go out into an open area - free of trees, tall buildings, etc. A field is ideal. Switch the GPS on and wait. Most GPS units will cold start in 3 minutes or less. If the GPS has moved 100s of miles since it last had a fix, it may take a little while - but should not need more than 5 minutes.

No signal on gps

GPS units need to be updated monthly and get the GPS fix downloaded from the internet, As the GPS sattilites fly around this planet, they are not in a stationary orbit, they fly around the continental United States and you have to wait until it returns to the east coast.

GPS is not working. It says waiting for a valid GPS signal. What can I do to fix this?

Usually, when it's waiting to get a valid GPS signal, it is "listening" (scanning) for satellite signals to establish your current location. If you are in the open outdoors, i.e. not inside a building or under extended covers, it should get the satellite signals within a minute or so.
