Question about Panasonic DMR-E85H DVD Recorder
The problem is caused by a faulty hard disk - it's dying of old age (non-recoverable errors), you should replace it.
No, it shouldn't cost that much, but finding a replacement disk will be difficult and time consuming. But if you're willing to take a gamble before junking it you could install a standard 160GB ATA disk in it, start the unit and upgrade its firmware.
