SOURCE: Hi There. I have Tally
check ribbon message on the 2265 indicates the printer is detecting
problems with moving the print head. You have ruled out the ribbon as
being the cause of the problem by using ribbons from another printer.
Before suspecting other components check the printer model, if the printer is a 2265+ check to ensure the correct ribbon is used. Note the ribbon for the 2265+ is different to the 2265 ribbon. The 2265+ has a ribbon sensor to detect the ribbon moving. If the printer is a 2265+ the part number for the ribbon should be 062471.
If the correct ribbon is used the problem could be the timing strip which could be dirty or warn. Try cleaning this and check for damage.
The problem can also be caused by a dirty or lubricated carriage shaft, the carriage shaft should be clean and dry running - Keep clean of any type of lubricant.
The problem can also be caused by the timing station on the carriage, the carriage motor.
