Toshiba M45-S331, Black screen

I am having the same problem as someone back in Dec. '07. I turn the laptop on and see "Toshiba", then the screen goes dark. I tried, as you instructed then, taking the battery out, pressing the power button for 20 secs. and then waiting one minute. Powered back up and the same thing happened. Any further suggestions?

Thanks, but didn't do the trick. I powered own and restarted while push F8 to start in safe mode, "Toshiba" showed and then went black. I've tried FN and the F5 key at the same time, again, to no avail. Thanks, again.

The Screen is very dark and on an angle I can see a little. On some re-starts it came back with standard brightness. I have not been able to duplicate this again. With an external monitor the screen is perfect

I just went through all this myself. First I had the inverter replaced ($200) and it worked great for a week, then the screen went out again. It turned out that the LCD needed replaced ($200 more, labor comped from the first no-fix). There's a problem with the Toshiba LCDs that makes them burn out sooner than other brands. Since the replaced screen, no problems (2 months). Sucks, I know.

Can you get it to go into "Safe"mode, and if so, will it come up then?

When my m45-s331 laptop is turn on for a long time, if i put the monitor off, maybe in not be turn on again and it's brightness become very low and hardly it can be seen! what should i do?

if you're using win xp, try to check the power option.(click start, go to control panel & power management/power option).from there, you have an option to adjust your screen brightness settings everytime you wake up your system from sleep mode/hibernation mode.
other option, you can update your video driver. here's the link http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=882862&rpn=PSM40U&modelFilter=M45-S331&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663
then choose display driver. download and install it. It will update your video display driver. It might help to improve your brightness issue.
Good Luck,
Ryan

I changed the inverted in my toshiba satellite

Sounds like the screen itself is bad or possibly the plug is bad to the inverter or motherboard. The videocard sounds like its ok.
