Unfortunately we have tto suspect from the begining in this case if the camcorder was working fine in the first place.
If this was tested OK then was a wrong card pushed into it.?
If this was not tested I assume the card interface, card slot could be defective. In both the cases you will need assistance from service centre.
However if it was working, remove battery , remove card. now get your card formatted in your PC . Now after about 30 minutes replace battery and power on. if the display indicates no SD card , push the carrd into the slot and see if it detects. Carefully look into the slot to see if there is any breach in the slot connector.
Since your cam is working otherwise, I suspect that it may not be much of an issue than some bad contacts in the slot.Use an air jet to clean and test once again.

Hi I inserted a new 8GB sd and the camera keeps trying to re-format. GZ-MC 200

There are no 8GB SD cards. A card that size is actually an SDHC card. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

Unless your manual specifically says that your camera can use an SDHC card, then it won't be able to. The maximum size of an SD card is 2GB. If you need more space, just carry a couple of cards and swap them, like people used to do when they filled up a film.

When i try to format the SDHC 8GB memory card the recording screen display's (Waiting....) for about 1 to 2 second's, then goe's to the normal recording screen and when i push the record button it...

Hi, look here's what to do, get yourself, or access to, A Computer, and a USB SD card reader, now, insert your 8GB SD card into the reader/writer, It will show up as a HDD in My Computer, and then, Format it FAT32. Now return it to the Camcorder, when turned on again, the Camera NOW should "See" the SD card. You may even be asked if you wish to Format, again, say YES, and do so, if NOT asked that;s OK too. as, you should now be able to, in either case, be able to have access to the SD card, and can change your phone settings accordingly, the extra storage will simply be "Picked Up" by the Camcorders software.
If this doesn't happen, then there maybe a problem with THAT SD card or the Camcorder? try another SD card before thinking the camcorder has a problem though.

Problems with formatting memory card

I'm guessing you're trying to format a new 4GB SDHC card? If so, am sorry to say that your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different.

You'll need to instead purchase a standard SD card (those that are 2GB or less). Forunately these are very inexpensive these days, with 2GB cards going for around $6 with shipping.

But if you must use 4GB, Transcend makes a 4GB standard SD card, but I can't guarantee that it will work with your camera as anything above 2GB for standard SD may have compliance issues.

Panasonic PVGS-50D SD memory card

Check your manual for the max supported SD card size. Most likely it will either support a minimum of 2-4 gb :)

So yes you can get larger cards for your PV GS 50D

Canon zr200 wont format new 4gb sandisk card...why?

The ZR200 is able to read a card of maximum of 2 Gbytes !!!

The 4 GB SD card it is a so called SDHC = Secure Digital High Capacity ! Every SD card with more than 2 G Bytes it is a High Capacity and the old hardware will not be able to use these SDHC.

Panasonic SD Card reading problem

Yes. The device was not using a standard file system. There usually is no cure. Try this. Format the card in the device and try one more time. Many don't know to perform this step.
