Nikon COOLPIX L100 Digital Camera Logo
Posted on Aug 28, 2010

I have a Coolpix L100, and have installed the Nikon Transfer software. I am using a USB cable (that came with the camera) to connect my PC (Windows XP) to the camera. The Nikon Transfer software does not seem to work--when the auto launch starts OR when I manually start the Nikon Transfer software--there are no photos to transfer. I would like to use the USB cable to connect and transfer photos from the camera to the PC. Why? you may ask? Because it came with the camera, and frankly this should work. I've tried this on another PC, and the same result. So, is there a trick to getting the pictures from the camera to the PC using the USB cable? Thanks!

Alright..... I had this same problem and I finally figured it out. If your pictures are saved onto the card, then the USB cord will not detect them. If you want to transfer pics via the USB cable, make sure they are saved to your camera. You can copy photos from your card to camera vice versa under your menu settings.
Also, your card CANNOT be plugged into your camera or it will not see anything. I guess the card confuses the camera. Seems really stupid on Nikon's part.
Your camera only has a limited amount of memory, so if you will be limited on how many photos you can save to your camera.
Do this, and it will work.

Nikon coolpix s3100

You know a camera can do a cold boot like a computer? Just remove the battery, leave it out a few seconds and reinsert the battery. It should work fine then.
You also should know, if you connect a camera to a computer with the USB cable, the camera won't work anymore. It will become a kind of hard drive, that the computer can access, if the correct software is installed.
Always first install the software, that came with the camera, before you connect a camera.

I have installed the Nikon Transfer software and am using the usb port connector. All I get is "the camera is busy" and zero program showing up in the dialog box where you select "always use this program"....

I had the same problem with the same camera. What worked for my pc was to start the Nikon Transfer software, select the camera and press the "start transfer" button. Nothing happens for about 6-7 minutes, but after that the transfer starts.
My pc: XP SP3
Camera: Coolpix L100
Nikon Transfer: ver. 1.3.0 (i used the software that came with the camera not the up to date version 1.5.3, but it might work with that version also

How to download pics from a nikon coolpix L100 to laptop

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.

You can also use software such as Nikon Transfer instead of drag&drop. You can get the latest versions of all Nikon software from http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

When I install my Nikon L100 transfer program on my computer with windows XP Professional and try to download pictures it don't reconize the camera and when the program starts up it says it has a problem...

Consider NOT connecting your L100 to your computer.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Coolpix s220 won't transfer pics via usb cable

If you can get the pics using a card reader, why are you insisting on using the camera and USB cord? Pros always use a card reader.

You can download PictureProject software from this address: http://chsv-soft.nikon-image.com/jpn/software/win/S-P2____-175WU-JPNJP.exe

That is the only Nikon software that supports Vista since your camera is "outdated".

Here is a quote from Nikon site:

  • We had released a Windows Vista-compatible version of PictureProject, v1.7.5, for use with the models listed below, and all models that followed. PTP (models supporting the PTP protocol) and Mass storage USB transfer options can be used for camera connection. However, the camera's transfer button can not be used to transfer pictures over a PTP connection. Set the USB transfer option to Mass storage to enable the camera's transfer button.
Currently, the new Nikon Transfer and View NX will replace Picture Project as our new Image Transfer and Browser applications. These applications support the same Nikon products as Picture Project.
