Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

On my Mitsubishi ws 65819 I can unplug the tv in and run the menu input and it gives me a 12, after I turn it on for a second I run the diagnostic again and it gives me the 21. I have the service manual, schematics, and pcb layouts. Is this something I can fix or am I waisting my time? Thanks, John.

Thanks, ABJ, found some whitish liquid on one of the boards in a spot about the size of a half dollar with a few stray drips. should I just wipe this off?

  • john_davis22 Sep 22, 2010

Thanks for the info, got busy and just got back into looking at this thing. Now I have power, not getting any error codes, I have sound, all menu capabilities, closed caption, but no picture. Can you help me out with this. I would really appreciate it.

I have been working from the front of the tv so I will do my best to describe it that way. Keep in mind when the tv was turning off after a few seconds and giving me the error code, I had picture, like I said now that it stays on I have none. Anyway, If you were looking at the tv as if you were watching it,I found the fluid on the front, middle of the bottom right side board, it is the only green board on the bottom and it takes up 1/3 of the bottom area. Man I wish there were guys like you locally for hire. Oh well, let me know if this helps and I really do appreciate your knowledge and time. Thanks

21 is the x-ray protect mode. This means you probably have something wrong in the high voltage/horizontal deflection area. Check for coolant leakage from one of the crt's onto the deflection board or possibly onto one of the others causing corrosion to the copper traces and/or components. Post what you find.

Go to a local electronics parts house and get a can of board wash/solvent. A salesman should be able to help you. Remove the board from the set and take it outside and holding it by the edge furthest from the problem thoroughly rinse the affected area. I usually start spraying above the area and work my way down to the edge. I also use a 3 to 4 inch paintbrush to clean the board. If you have access to pressurized air use it to dry the board. I often just take a paper towel, lay it over the wet area, and use the paint brush to kinda dab the paper towel down between the components to dry the board. just keep moving it around and dabbing. After it's dry, reinstall and see if the set works. If not you will probably need a new board as the coolant corrodes the copper away and that's pretty hard to fix.

As you look at the chassis from the backof the set, which board did you find the liquid on?

  • abrownjr Sep 24, 2010

There are a lot of very smoll holes that are "feed throughs" joining one side of the board to the other side electrically. One or more of these tend to corrode from the liquid and loose contact between sides. Also there is an IC in that area, I think the number on it is CX2101A or something very similar, and it tends to stop working for some reason after contamination. All of this circuitry is in the video processing area. This board is the Signal PCB, part number 930B881001. At this point your best bet is to send it to a rebuilder or try to get a used one as it is no longer avail. from Mitsubishi. A rebuilder: 800-844-7871 Call them and make sure they can rebuild this board as parts are getting scarce. A used parts seller:
    Good luck with this.

shutdown is happening= If set has been unplugged plug it back in and turn set on--when green power light goes off in a few seconds:

On front of set (not the remote) press and hold both the Menu and Input (Device) buttons at same time and hold for at least 5 seconds---then release both.

Power light will blink an error code like 2 blinks, 2 blinks pause and repeat it for a total of 5 times.

Let me know what error code is and I will tell you what it means.

Tv will not turn on. I hear it click and the light goes on for about 3 seconds then shuts off. I've tried this about 20 times

Please listen and try this:

When the power light comes on and goes off, on the front of the set press BOTH the Menu and Input (Device) buttons at the SAME time and HOLD them both for at least five seconds and then release both.

The power light will blink a two digit error code and will repeat it about 5 times. To get it to repeat you would have to unplug the set and turn it one again etc.

The most common error is 2 blinks, pause, 2 blinks.

Let me know what error code you find and I will direct you as to what it means and what may have to be done.

Inputs randomly stop registering, screen goes blank

Code 12 indicates no error. Push the Menu and Device buttons after the TV has shut off to get the proper code, not after you unplug and plug it back.

It seems your set is not Mitsubishi WS-55819 so it will help if you can give the exact model.

My Mitsubishi ws-65819 won't power up. When I use

Unplug it ,leave it unplugged for at least an hour.
now slowly plug back in , if you notice a small spark coming
from the plug when you plug it in that's normal

which means most likely the regulator or output tran is out.
is about 150.00 200.00 normal cost. no more.

If the plug doesn't spark at all when you plug it in slowly
could be a Fuse :>

Self test: Turn on and Press the input and menu buttons on front panel together and hold for 5 sec. after 5 sec the power LED will blink a 2 digit seq. This will let you know what error code. Count the first blinks then a short pause then the second blinks. Example 2-3, 3-4, 4-1. Let us know what it is

You have a short on your circuit. It is probably in the Horizontal or the High Voltage CKT. I would separate these circuits by isolating them one at the time (unplug them and reconnect one at the time). If you don't know how, call services.

Mitsubishi WS-65819 got Fried by a mouse

Just replacing the board if its the main board is half of the repair. The memory IC which is usually located on the main board holds all the data for convergence, picture geometry, channel memory, color settings etc..So getting it to run is only half of the battle. Got to and look for the main board. I couldn't however look it up because it says your model number is invalid.
