Hi,

The receiver turns off as a self protective measure when ever it detects an internal fault.

Due to other reasons too this will happen check accordingly and replace it.If you don't have hands on it,ask help of repair professionals.

1)Amplifier on the right and left channel is defective or burnt this happens

2)If you don’t see anything like that look for discolored or burnt components, smell is very helpful as overheated components can be very lightly discolored but the smell of a burnt/overheated component is unmistakable.

2)Heat is always an issue to check for, your best bet, without taking it apart is to try and cool it externally.

3)Check for firmware updates.

4)Sometimes a dodgy power supply can be the problem, spontaneously not providing enough power to keep it running.

5)The audio output transistors are mounted to a large heat sink which keeps them cool during operation. They are electrically isolated from touching the heat sink by an electrical insulating washer. But, in order to keep them cool and allow for good thermal conductivity of the heat generated by the output transistors the washers are treated with a heat conducting grease. Over time this grease will dry out and lose its heat conductivity ability allowing the temperature of the transistors to rise. as the heat goes up they conduct more current and cause the protection system to activate and turns off.

post a comment for further assistance.
thank you for using fixya have a nice day:-)

Hello I have the yamaha htr-5740. I put well the cables to the speakers and it don't sound in any input chanel can anyone help me? thanks.

I'm sorry, but your English is a little bit rough for me to understand. Are you saying it's dead? If you have the owner's manual, look for the procedure for "return to default or reset", and try that. If that doesn't work, try rephraising your question in American English. Sorry for the confusion.

The htr-5740 will not always turn on both with the remote and using the panel on switch

One possibility is dirt in the switch. Clean it with contact cleaner ... but unplug it first!

HTR-5740 Subwoofer Hooking Up Issue

You can use a hi-level to low-level adapter. Just remember, the Yamaha does not send power (wattage) to the sub, just signal. You need to use a subwoofer that has an amplifier either externally or built in.
