Question about Yamaha DVX-C310SL System

Distorted picture, after changing "TV TYPE"

Out of curiosity I switched the "TV TYPE" to PAL- notice stated that it will auto-recover in 15 seconds, well, since yesterday and after following the troubleshooting instructions - which are not much help- in addition to unplugging the console for 30 minutes, I still have a vertical roll for picture under DVD/CD selection. Everything else works well as far as audio. Another thing I notice, under DVD setup menu the "preference page" is empty.

I hope you can help, I just got this system last week....

thanks!

Thank you for taking of your time to respond, I tried your suggestions but did not work however I came across the instructions below in the manual and that did the trick. I am not very impressed with this manual. I know this is not a top of the line Yamaha system, but it is not very friendly...

Well here goes
its going to take a little finness but i think i can help
i got the owners manual infront of me
find dvd/cd press it. then setup button on remote go to the osd menu you probably wont see it cause its a little fuzzy
but were going to try and walk threw blind, video menu is the first one on menu so its going to be one down
that tv type
one over to right arrow keys
one down to ntsf setting then hit ok (enter)
this way is a blind walk threw but will get it done if have patiences

the other way you mentioned is that your missing preferneces
will see and check
the other is [preferences page]- [default]- [reset] Press enter (ok) to reset the paremeters to initial factory settings
this can be found on page 38 en of the manual i will also post the link so you know what i am looking at hope these too things work i know you cant see your screen but a blind walk threw is better than not having the preferences not being there for you

Out of nowhere, the sound became extremely distorted for everything. Changed to several other inputs (DVD, CBL-SAT) but all were distorted

Bad connection? Unplug the sub to see if it has anything to do with the surround or coil on the sub speaker. Connect the cubes separately to test.

Change from PAL to NTSC

To begin, the first and second problems are completely unrelated.

If you bought a PAL TV and are playing an NTSC source, the result will be an invalid format. The two sources are not compatible. However, there are converters available, see: http://www.converters.tv/signals/ntsc_to_pal.html (just as an example).

To the second user. My first guess is that you need to select the proper input on your TV. Look for the "input" button on your TV remote and toggle through each input until you see a picture. The problem may be more complicated than that, but, to troubleshoot, I need to know: what TV you have, how many devices and what devices are hooked to the TV.

Please change TV color system to AUTO to see jumping free picture.

(Bose lifestyle 28) DVD picture is distorted, shadowy and difficult to discern

Try the settings setup and adjust the brightness, video format, or video black level. If you're using component connections then adjust the video output. You can scroll system setup through the remote control settings button.

Maybe it's something with picture settings, i.e. NTSC/PAL or INTERLACE/PROGRESSIVE SCAN.

Picture rolling when I play DVDs

I used to have that same problem with my system. Fortunately for me, I still had the instruction booklets at the time so that helped me to figure it out. step 1: make sure there is no dvd in the dvd player before you start fixing the problem. Step 2: Press the "setup" button on the remote. Step 3: Once you have removed the dvd from the dvd player it should allow you to go to "preferences" in the setup menu. So do that. Step 4: Go to "TV TYPE" and make sure it's on NTSC. And then exit setup by pressing the setup button once again. And it should work. That's how it worked with my system at least. It seemed to switch the tv type by itself from NTSC to PAL which must be a flaw in the system. I thought I was the only one with that problem. Well, I hope that helped you at all. Have a good day.

Playing burnt dvds in black and white

Cause: You are trying to play a DVD with NTSC-standard on a PAL-videodevice. Solution: switch your video-device to NTSC-standard or to "AUTO". Explanation: I had this "Black&White" problem after I played a DVD which I downloaded from Internet. My video-device (beamer) was set on PAL and gave black&white pictures, but when I switched it to "NTSC" the problem was solved. Apperently the Sony DAV-DZ100 switches automatically from PAL to NTSC when needed.
