The screen on the laptop Inspiron 9200 is very dark, but I can see the computer is on and all my icons very lightly in the background. How can I make the screen brighter?

your screen might need to be replaced. soon you wont be able to see anything. replacing the screen should be an ez fix

1) UNPLUG THE LAPTOP
2) REMOVE THE BATTERY
3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES
4) THEN PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN
5) START IT UP..

The sd card slot on dell Inspiron 9200 laptop is located on the right hand side of the laptop as indicated in the picture I've just uploaded below:

The problem is most likely the back light and the fault could be the inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to determine the fault and fix :-

you can try to connect an external monitor to your system then toggle FN+f8 if you see the screen good in external monitor it means the graphic card is ok then you have to replace the LCD panel.

This is your back light on your lcd display, To prove that have a flash light handy when it goes dark point the flash light at the screen and you should see the screen and that would mean right there you got a back light going out or the inverter that powers it is going bad. Etherway if this is not your area of work you need to tech it to a computer tech local to have it repaired.

Take the laptop into a darkened room.
Does the correct image show, but very dim ?
If so, then the "back-light" in the LCD has failed.
It's about a $20 part, and it will take a qualified technician less than one hour ($60?) to disassemble the laptop, replace the part, reassemble, and then test the laptop.

If it showed a pinkish tint on the screen before it went out it could be the backlite. If you can see a faint screen when you turn the room lights out it chuld be the inverter. Inverters are cheap ... a used one for around $8 on ebay. Try that first. Make sure that you buy the EXACT model that is presently in your laptop.

You may need to check your desktop image for your monitor and change it to something lighter
The external monitor usually uses your computer's default and not ncessarily the one from your laptop monitor

Without taking it apart myself, it could be some wiring from the laptop to the screen
