Sometimes the router does not issue an IP address to the laptop and you get this error message. Right click on the wireless icon on the Task Bar and click on Repair. The router will issue a new IP address to your laptop and you will be able to get Internet connection.
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) 3.Note router name you are connecting to. 4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses. 5. Set the Desktop/laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. 6.Note router name you are connecting to.
When you set up your router do always use a wired computer (phisically connected ).
You'll be setting up the router so setting it up through one is enough
Once the router is set up by performing these options
1>start->run->cmd ->youll find default gateway
2>open rsp by typing in default gateway address in brouser tab
3>select ->connection type ->and put in your uname and password for dsl or clone mac address for cable
4>set channell to 11 or 6 for best signal strength
5>set ur ssid(network name) and security (wep preffered) if you want it.
6>once router is set up on the top of the rsp you may see ipstatus:: connected
7>Now just select your network on your laptop
and happy surfing
Let me know if your issue is sorted
This kind of problem occur due to dhcp disable in the wireless router for the security purpose. So try to give the ip adress manually by right clicking on the wireless and give the ip adress of the same range in which your network in working e.g 192.168.1.0 is the range of your ip addresses so please select the ip which is not been used by any other computer and than in default gateway enter the ip address of you wireless router and you will be able to access the internet on your system.
It appears to me that you have everything plugged into the desktop PC. This is not the way that it should be done. Plug the cable modem into the wireless router via the Internet/WAN port. Plug your desktop PC into one of the ports numbered 1-4. Now connect to the router via the wireless connection for the router and you should be able to now connect to the internet with your laptop.
If it still does not work, power down everything in this order: Laptop, Desktop, Router, Cable Modem. Bring everthing up in the reverse order (Cable Modem, Router, Desktop, Laptop) waiting for each device to stablize before moving to the next.
Once you get everything working, turn on your wireless security (WPA not WEP) asap to keep your computers and surfing safe, and to keep intruders off your network.
