We just set up our telescope and can't see anything. We do have the cover off, have used all the eye pieces but it's dark. Kinda feel like a dope but obviously we're missing something. ...

Start by using it during the day pointing at a nearby object (100yds or so) Start by sighting along the axis of the scope. Use the lowest power (highest number in mm) eyepiece. (BTW the eyepiece is in the front of the scope where the light comes in and this will be the part of the scope that is closest to the object) Once you can see the object, move to the higher power eyepiece to center on the object and then align the led pointer so the red dot is also centered on the object.
After this initial alignment, pick a night that the moon is out and try it.
Note: The 114 shows correct image (right side up and left to right) unlike most other scopes. It is a nice telescope/ ( I have the 130mm)

I have a newtonian telescope 76mm with SR4, H12.5 and H20. I have aligned the crosses up and can see through the viewfinder but nothing through the eye piece. Ive placed all the other lenses into the eye...

YOU MUST align the small finder scope with the main tube.

Point the scope at a distant object like the top of a telephone pole. GET the top in the center of the eyepiece in the main scope.

Then without moving the scope-- adjust the cross-hairs in the small finder scope so they line up on the same object.

2.5x8 variable leupold loses focus when change power

The only reason a variable power Leupold scope should lose focus when changing power is that the object you are viewing is too close to view on a high magnification. Try again while viewing something 50 yards/meters away, and if it still loses focus, then it probably needs repair.

Leupold scopes aren't user-servicable, and you wouldn't want to try to take it apart yourself, but that's okay, because Leupold has one of the best reputations among optics manufacturers for standing behind their products. If there's a problem, you can call their customer service department at 1-800-538-7653, or submit a request on their online form here:
http://www.leupold.com/corporate/contact-us/service-support/

Either way, don't give up on it. Leupolds hold their value, and you could probably even sell a problem scope to someone who is willing to send it in for repair.

Good luck!

Dan, your best bet is to buy a set of calipers ($25) or find a friend with one, or take the scope to the shop where you expect to buy the lens covers and have them measure it for you. The butler creek covers come in a easily opened container and most shops will let you check fit in the shop. the 2.5 x 8 x ? does not really help you as the ? is the objective lens diameter. While this is good to know, different scope companies 40mm scopes may take different cover sizes as the tube outside diameter may be different.

Hope this helps

Hi, i was thinking of getting a leupold riflemen 4-12x40 and was wondering if i can zoom in? thanks Taylor

The 4-12 X 40 means 4 time magnification to 12 times magnification with a 40 mm objective lens.

This indicates that you can zoom from 4-12 times the unmagnified size of your subject.

Short answer - Yes!

its all down to the mounts not being right for that gun, the frount of the scope is to hight up,
however if its shooting low get yourself a strip of 35mm camra film cut a fuw strips off and slip them under the eye end of your scope then nip the scope donw on the film strips, this will life the eye end of the scope up and raze the point of aim, done put more that 4 strips of film under your scope or you may bend the tube if you cant raze it with 3 strips its a new mount, sorry i do this for the guys at my club and on big rifles too, it wont shift or slip if its niped up

Cap cover pentax 3x-9x scopes

You do not define "cap cover" as to whether it is a 'lens cap' of which the Objective Lens comes in varying sizes with the 3x9 scope depending on the model.
However, you should be able to find one in the size you need at most any Firearms supply store. I have even found a lens cap for a Leupold at a Walmart.
Barring that, go to; www.pentaxsportoptics.com, they should be able to help you in your quest.

Good luck. :)
