Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H652H DVD/CD-ROM drive and it use to burn dvd and cd-r with no problem. I have not been using this feature for sometime and recently decided to backup my computer onto dvd-rw(s) that are Memorex brand (4x speed). It only recognizes the disk as cd-rw instead of dvd-rw. Also it shows that the amount of used space on the disk that has not been used, pulled from the bottom of the stack of unused disk has 4.37gigs of used space. I have tried uninstalling/updating software, rebooting and what not. The computer it is on is a Emachines with Windows XP. The drive has always had problems with different brands, but usually memorex has worked. Any ideas or input about this problem would be greatly appreciated because there are a lot of files that need to be backed up.

No worries I recieved some help through an alternative source, forgot XP doesn't have built in software for their drives to recognize the difference between cd-r and dvd-r.....I just used a different program to assist and it corrected my problem... the disk wasn't a was dvd-rw :) suppose to be 4.7gb but the 4.37 is just what this desktop was trying to tell me it had as already used space...noteing that the disk had not been used at all. Thanks though for the reply.

I ended up finding a solutin somewhere else....the problem was with my Windows XP not having proper built in software to recognize what the difference is between cd-r and dvd-r my computer kept seeing the dvd-rw disk as a cd-rw...note that the problem was fixed by using a software burning program. In the first post i made I ment to say 4.7gb and I know how to break down the amount of data to spread it over other disk but that takes time and more cd-r than dvd-rw. Anyways thanks for the replay and the problem is now solved. :)

> 4.37 GB

4377 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024 is 4.7 times 10 (to a large power).

So, depending on if you measure as multiples of 1000 (10**3) or 1024 (2**10), you get either '4.3' or '4.7'.

Pick a collection of files of over 1GB (a CD-writable holds 700MB), and try to write to one DVD-recordable. If it works, it works, despite the "claim" that the blank disk was a CD-recordable.

    >> suppose to be 4.7gb but the 4.37 is just what this desktop was trying to tell me it had ...

To repeat, 4.37 times 2 (raised to a large power) is equal to 4.7 times 10 (raised to a large power).

So, it's like measuring in CGS units (inches/feet/miles) and remeasuring in metric units (kilometers),

and then asking why one reading says 1.0 [mile] and another reading says 1.6 [kilometers].

The distance has not changed -- only the units have changed.

really? this is your answer to a problem with software and hardware??? trying to swap measurements??? sorry but I definetly will not be back here....

I have a D620 laptop with a tsstcorp ts-l632d dvd/cd burner but it will now only burn dvds and not cds, when I use windows media player it converts the songs but will not burn them

All burners use 2 lasers - one for the cd and the other for the dvd. In your case the laser for the cd has died and cannot be fixed. You must replace the burner . This one will do the job

Dvd/cd-rom drive tsstcorp cddvdw ts-1633a ata device stopped working

First check in bios under boot device priority if cd dvd drive is listed or not, if not then reseat the dvd drive, if yes the follow the steps.
1. Uninstall the cd dvd drive from device manager and also ATA Channel0 and ATA Channel1 and restart the compter, and then check.
2. If the above step doesnt resolve your issue then
In the run box type regedit, go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE - SYSTEM - Control Set001 - Control - Class - {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - On the right hand side check for upper or lower filters if you find one delete it.
Do the same with Control Set002 and Current Control set.
Restart the computer and you will see the issue is resolved for sure.
If not then reseat the dvd drive and then repeat the steps

Cannot Burn (HP ProBook 4510s CDDVDW TS-L633M)

Yes no store bought brand is setup to be great quality. You will have to find either archive quality discs so that they have high compatibility and quality ratings or just by small amounts of brands till you find one that will work for you.
