Question about Hotpoint HTS16HBR Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Hello. Our unit is still running but the fan(s) seem to have stopped. We are going to have it looked at but not for a couple of days. Will the food stay cold enough if the fan is not moving the cool air around? It might be 3 or 4 days.

Hello, My name Zoltan, and I have a Maytag

Your defrost element has failed in the freezer, ice has built up in the freezer cooling cores and air cant pass through them to the fridge, you need to defrost the unit totally and replace the elements, they are at the inside rear, behind the plate, also check your internal fan is running in the freezer, could be another fault. Yes, you either got a bad capacitor or the wrong one. As, it seems that it's overheating. When that happens it shuts OFF. After an hour of cooling, it functions again. If that's the case, in no time at all, it will fail completely.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hello

Sounds like the compressor is shuting down on high heat. There could be a couple reasons for this.
1 Check that proper voltage is being supplied to compressor.
2 Freon level may be low. This would be a service call.
3 Bad or intermitent connection at thermostat.
4 Main contacts to compressor sticking, usually burnt or pitted.

The freezer fan runs continuosly

It may be because there is some air leak into the freezer. Check if it is closed air tight. Also try defrosting the freezer. Check the fan after that. It may stop working continuously.

Hi,
Usually when this happens it is because of a problem with the fan that moves cold air from the freezer section of your unit to the refrigerator section. Either the fan has gone bad or the unit has frosted up to the point of stopping the fan. Try defrosting (unplugging) the unit over night and then check it to see if the fan runs. If not then replace the fan. If it runs and then stops after awhile like days or even a few weeks, then you may need a defrost timer.
The other thing that can cause this is the heating element going bad, but this is not usually the problem. The element can be checked with an OHM meter. If the coil does not have any resistance then it is bad.

You can find parts for your unit by doing a search for “appliance parts”.
Once you get the results of the search, pick a site and when it comes up it will usually ask for the model number of your unit.
Enter your model number and you will then get a page with exploded views and a parts menu.
Find the part you need and then order it.
Check a few different sites to be sure that you are getting the best pricing.
Most sites can have the part to you in a couple of days.
I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan stops spinning after 15 mins

Capacitor, dirty condencer coil causing the motor amps to run too high. But most likely worn bearing on blade side of motor causing it to pull to one side causing it to over heat and shut down. Sleve bearings should have no side play.
