Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Frozen solid freezer, warm refrigerator. (model Amana bottom freezer abb1922few) Can see frost on freezer foods and back vents (almost occluded). Just vacuumed wads of dog hair/dust off of front half of coils underneath fridge; unable to pull it out further to get to back half of underneath (if there are more coils; difficult to see). What now? Have taken frozen foods & freezer drawers out. Should I unscrew the 4 bolts on the back of freezer panel and remove? Also plug &outlet is in back of fridge where I can't get to so I can't unplug it for now... (danger??)

Mod# ABB1922FEW... the freezer works fine but the refrigerator is warm, there is very little food in the freezer.

If the vent from the freezer to the refrigerator is not blocked with food or paper particles, then it's likely the defrost system is not working properly. You will need a technician to determine the cause.

Hello Nicole,

Their are a few things that couldbe causing your refrig.troubles.

1) their is ice build up in the return air vents that is not allowing air to flow correctly
you can see the air vents under the crispers in the ref.floor and can see if they
blocked with ice.

2) the freezer fan is bad and not circulating cold air into and out of the ref.

3) In addation to the defrost timer, perhaps the deforst heater and defrost thermostat are bad and frost is building up in the freezer,Do ya see frost
build up in the freezer??

Refrigerator temp is 66 degrees, way too warm. Freezer seems that all food is frozen and normal. I have opened the refrigerator several times in a fairly short period of time this morning. Set refrigerator...

Hello,
Yes it does sound like it could be a component of the defrost system thats the problem OR the fan in the freezer that circulates cold air into the fresh food compartment

If ya see frost build up on the back wall of the freezer and do indeed hear the fan running it will be a defrost problem

if ya dont hear the fan in the freezer running thats very possibly the problem

Wow
Ican not understand what you need.
So I am guessing here
Ice has built up on the evaporator coil stopping air flow to the food section.
Try manually defrosting the fridge. If this works then the auto defrost cycle has failed and you will need to get a technician to help you

Refrigerator is warm, but freezer is cold and still making ice. This is a 3 year old Amanna Bottom Freezer model. There is frost in the top of the freezer drawer when I putt it out.

you will need to defrost it. the freezer is what keeps your fridge cool. the vent where the cool air goes up to your fridge is sealed or frozen.
unplug the fridge and open the doors and let it defrost.
plug it back in after a few hours and it should be working again.

Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Amana ABB2224DEW

I have this problem as well, only nobody is leaving anything open. The defroster is defective of these things and the duct between the fridge and freezer gets frozen over and the cold air can't get in the fridge, so the freezer keeps working until it's blue in the face.

My model is ARB 1914 CC nine years old.

your "damper vent door" located between the refrigerator and freezer compartments is frozen open or the cold adjustment contron in the refrige is bad and not powering the door as you change the temp set for the refrige and leaving it open,if the door is frozen from ice/frost just de-ice it with a hair dryer and then set the temp adjust and see if it opens and closes with any adjustment

Bottom of refrigerator is not cooling

Hi: Is your freezer so full it's blocking the vents? If so unblock the vents. If not put your food in a cooler, frozen and fresh. Unplug your refrigerator. Take a hair dryer to the back of the freezer to melt frost accumulated behind the panel. I know it's supposed to be frost free. You have a problem with the defrost heater or the timer. The frost is blocking the vents. Most likely it is the later, but if you see no frost it could be the circulating fan. The location of these will be in your parts list. Kenmore still gives these with their products. If you don't have it go to sears.com and use parts direct. They will have a diagram. I hope this helps, Jeff By the way, If you are not handy just do the hair dryer thing and it will work for a weed or two until the frost plugs it up again.

maybe? yeah but have you checked that the drainage hole is is clean and clear from any trapped dirt, that is sometimes a major problem, it stopped my freezer from functioning for weeks!! but the day i cleared it the water was gone, and the freezer was working as good as new!

Amana BX22A2W - freezer works, fridge not cooling

Same problem here with an Amana refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. I removed the back panels and vacuumed dust and cat hair out. The back panel in the freezer was frosted over with ice on the bottom. I removed the shelves and food and used a hairdryer to loosen the panel. The ice maker made it harder to remove the plastic panel so I pulled it back and saw the cooling fins frozen solid. I used the hairdryer to melt the ice and a shop vacuum to collect the water. It works like new again.
