Question about Olympus FE-230 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera I have an olympus camera. I dropped it at a party a few months ago, and the screen cracked on the inside, but it didn't affect the pictures, they came out fine. When I was on vacation, my camera started acting wierd. When I turn it on, the lense goes in and out, and i have to press the playback button so it will stay on. And then, when I try to take a picture it turns out completely blurry. I do not know if Best Buy will take it back because i don't have the insurance plan.. Also I cannot send it back to Olympus because of the crack.. Helpp!

Hey Giaaxxmarie,
The problem with the lens going in an out, and the blurry images is most likely caused by damage to the lens that happened when you dropped the camera, and after time the damage got progressively worse. The return/exchange period for cameras purchase at Best Buy™ stores would be 14 days and even if you were within this period since the camera has damage a Best Buy™ store would not be able to exchange the camera. You could have it looked at by an authorized service technician, but repairs on digital cameras are often not cost effective.

Sincerely,
Allan

Olympus 850 sw digital camera 2 yrs old! Used all day perfectly fine turned back on screen blank, still takes photos, Still flashes, still beeps when press buttons just lcd screen is black likes its off?...

Hi

Either the LCD screen is cracked or defective in some other manner. It's possible the LCD works but just the backlight is out as well. Either way, the camera needs to be opened and the LCD checked out.

The Olympus "Tough" and "SW" cameras are FAR FROM being either "Tough" or "S"hock and "W"aterproof. I have seen dozens and dozens of them with cracked glass over the LCD and destroyed by water damage. Sounds like something got inside your camera or it was badly dropped.

Hope this helps.

Flooded my Olympus 850SW while snorkeling in Fiji. I let

Fiji's great isn't it?! Friendliest people and GREAT diving and marine life. A photographers dream, as long as the camera works.

Anyhow, to answer your question, YES, your camera is dead.
May it rest in peace at the nearest electronics recycling station.
If you even get a few drops of salt water in an electronic camera it's either going to be toast immediately, or it won't take long for the inevitable corrosion to do it's magic and kill it. You could send it in for repair, but that would likely cost more than a new(er) camera.

My digital camera's screen is broken

This camera is selling for under $100. If the pictures are not affected (and they shouldn't be) use it as is.

Olympus FE-270 has a grey LCD screen, with vertical lines.

The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.
http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $87.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Menu will not display

hi, as you said, you got your camera repaired in olympus. If your camera is in guarantee period, istrongly suggest to go to olympus again.I also think as per our experience that virus can't affect the menu pad or arrow keys. I think the delicate circuit attached with mode sw ond arrow keys will be damaged. so go to olympus now. good luck...
