You probably have a sheared flywheel key, which means that maybe at some point, the blade on the mower came in contact with a very solid, fixed object. There could be other causes too. Flywheel key isn't real hard to fix. The air-gap of the magneto could be set wrong or become out of range and cause this problem too.

Hi Sylvain:
Assuming the spark plug is good, I would pull the flywheel and look for a partially sheared key.

What did i miss

Valves have to be seated by lapping. If you skipped this then the valve seat is not correct.

Morrow will not start just back fires

Backfire is a timing issue. The flywheel on those motors controls that timing. Check to be sure that the woodruff key is not missing and that the flywheel is lined up correctly.

I have a cub cadet rzt that every time I turn the ignition on it blows a fuse

Someplace, somewhere... the insulation on a wire is rubbed away and the wire is touching ground. It will NOT be easy to track down.

I've known some people to track that sort of problem down by bypassing the fuse and just seeing which wire catches fire. I don't advise that, since it may be inside a wire loom and catch a LOT of wires on fire, and you may end up with the whole mower catching fire.

Time to either get really familiar with a multimeter or find someone who's good with electrical stuff to dig through your mower.

My mountfield lawn mower approx 7 years old has started to miss fire and has black smoke from exhaust i have changed plug it was then ok for 5 mins then same

Did you hit something like a stump with it? Sounds like your timing has jumped out of whack. If so, then you'll need to remove the flywheel (not an easy task for most) and replace the timing key that aligns the flywheel with the crank shaft and keeps'er firing at the right time. This timing key is made of soft metal and is designed to break if your blade strikes a solid object, as opposed to bending your crank shaft and ruining your engine. Hope this helps.

Lawn mower miss firing changed the spark plug. When started it's making a punting sound. What would be the solution?

Did you hit something with your mower? It sounds like a timing problem. The shear key may be dented throughing off your timing. The shear key is located between the flywheel and the top of the crankshaft. Remove the top cover to your engine and any attachments. Remove the flywheel. Check the key, I believe you will find your problem, a deformed shear key. Get a new one, replace all parts, and you should be ready to go. GOOD LUCK.

Rebuilt the carburator. Now when you run the starter it fires through the carburator.

Usually means a lean carburator condition. If an adjustment screw is available, turn counter clockwise a 1/4 turn at a time. Check carb to engine gasket-if missing or broken an air leak will cause a lean condition. It could also be a bad intake valve, timing problem, bad spark plug, bad coil, or bent or broken flywheel key.

Was mowing with riding mower was running fine started missing and black smoke coming out of exhaust stopped mower immediatetly oil in carb now and when try cranking it just cranks and cranks not firing

Pull plug and check compression. When cranking see if bottom pulley turns from engine. If compression is below 90 psi it won't start and you have an internal problem. Stopped mower immediately sounds like motor blew. Also check side of motor for cracked block, Good luck.
