SOURCE: Rotten Egg Smell
Repair man told me this is common with front load washers. I was told to put Sunlight dish washing detergent (for dishwashers not hands) in the machine (about 1/2 cup) and do a hot wash with the machine empty.

If the icemaker motor or heater short out it will cause a foul odor. I have never heard it described as cooked broccoli, but it can be pretty bad. Remove the icemaker and inspect the bottom of it where the heater element is and remove the white cover of the motor and look in there. You can take the three screws out of the motor module and see if anything is burned on it.
If you can rule out the icemaker, the next things to check would be the evaporator fan motor and defrost heater. Generally, if a fan motor starts causing an odor it will stop running completely and if a defrost heater goes out it will quit defrosting. It is possible, but unlikely, that something has gotten into the evaporator area and is sitting on the defrost heater so that it is "cooking" during the defrost cycle.
Check the icemaker first, it is the most likely cause of the odor. Post back with complete model number if you need further assistance and we will go through checking everything else.

SOURCE: Refridgerator water odor
I think I fixed the smell problem. Of course it may come back in a few weeks but what I did was I used a large syringe filled with vinegar and pumped that through the lines. I was able to get a really good seal using just the plastic tip of the syringe pressed really hard against my abdomine while I used the water despenser to let the pressure go through the line. I left the filter in because I think the bacteria had contaminated it as well. I kept refilling the syringe and pressing it into the fridge's water line and running the water dispenser at the same time until I got about 10 oz of vinegar in the lines. At that point I could taste the vinegar coming out in the water. I then ran out of vinegar (oops) so I started waiting till I could drive to get more vinegar but gave up after waiting over 1.5 hours (I had a reason why I could not just go and get more). At that point I was kind of worried I might pickle the lines and never get the taste of vinegar out so I reconnected the water lines and flushed the vinegar through (about 2,5 gallons). It seems to still be good tasting after the second day so at least I know the vinegar kills that bacteria, just not sure if I got enough vinegar through to completely fill the lines (it only tasted a little like vinegar when I ran out). I don't think a plumber would know to try this.
Hope this helps others.

Your catalytic converter is plugged up,
If you check the exhaust output at the tailpipe you will find it restricted.
Let me know if I can assist further.

I had the same problem, but just fixed it. I have a maytag bottom freezer and when the fan blower comes on, there was a foul/stale smell that permeated the kitchen. There is no drip pan that I could remove to clean.
I just removed four screws from the back cover of the fan blower area, reached in with a small cup of organic odor remover and poured it into the drip pan just under the fan blower.
Any odor remover would work. probably vinegar or enzyme odor remover would work, too.
I now have fresh smell when the fan blower comes on.
