Thanks but problem is still there. I'll describe it better.

    Description of page:

My windows live page is set up with three columns,- folders on the left, senders/receivers names & dates of emails in centre, and text ( if there is text ) on the right.

I have an email on an "inbox" in the left column. Beside the senders name is a closed envelope,-( it really looks like an open envelope with the back turned towards you, and the lower right hand corner turned well up behind the envelope).

This particular "inbox" in the left column is simply labelled "[Gmail]" with those boxed brackets around the word "Gmail" and a little black triangle to the left of it.

It is below the main indicator of my provider which is written above the folders as "Gmail ( peterhelenoflynn)", also with the little black triangle on the left of the word "Gmail",- these little triangle disappear of course when the cursor is outside the sector with the folders.

    The problem:

I dont think it is that symbol of the closed envelope that indicates the problem but rather the fact that the cursor has a closed nonmoving circle beside it when I move it into that centre column. Maybe the closed circle indicates overloading.

This circle does not appear when the cursor is in the left or right columns.

This particular email has a lot of photos attached. When I try to either cancel it or open it the system freezes and I have to re-boot. After rebooting the email is still there!

    Thanks,

    Peter

still no idea how to cancel that email from my windows live. it wont click with delete button, and i've already got it off the gmail website. I repeat that the cursor shows a fixed circle when I go near it and that the system blocks up if I select it and click delete. the "experts" have not addressed the specific problem of how to delete it.

just lost an attempted reply to you.

I was saying that this particular email with the folded over envelope in Windows Live contains a lot of photos, and cannot be selected to either open or delete.

When I try to select this email the cursor is accompanied by a fixed circle and the computer freezes up in the sense that the cursor will not then open any other function, site or link and I have to close down and restart.

As I had already received these photos previously and have already filed them away how can I now delete this email?

    Thnaks for your help,

    Peter

The envelope symbol means when it is unopened, you have an unread email. How are you trying to cancel it? Can you specify further? And how you say the system blocks up?

Click on the mail and
then at the top menue you have an option click on delete.
By doing this you will get rid of that email from your inbox.

If you dont want any junks in your inbox follow these steps:

1.Open Windows Mail by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Mail.
2.Click the Tools menu, and then click Junk email Options.
3.Select the protection level you want:

-No Automatic Filtering. Click this option if you want to stop blocking junk e‑mail messages altogether. However, Windows Mail will continue to block messages from domain names and e‑mail addresses on your Blocked Senders list.
- Low. Click this option if you don't receive many junk e‑mail messages and want to block only the most obvious junk e‑mail messages.
- High. Click this option if you receive a large volume of junk e‑mail messages and want to block as many as possible. However, you should periodically review the messages in your Junk e‑mail folder to ensure that there are not any legitimate e‑mail messages that might have been moved there as well.
- Safe List Only. Click this option if you only want to receive messages from people or domain names on your Safe Senders list. E‑mail messages from people or domain names not on your Safe Senders list will be treated as junk e‑mail messages, so you should only choose this option if you are certain that every person or domain name you want to receive messages from is on your Safe Senders list.

If you want you can also bloack a particular sender and from him you will not receive any email:

1
Open Windows Mail by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Mail.

2
Click a message from the sender that you want to add to the Blocked Senders list.

3
Click the Message menu, point to Junk e‑mail, and then do one of the following:

1. To block all future messages from that specific sender, click Add Sender to Blocked Senders List.
2 To block all messages from any sender whose domain name (the portion of the e‑mail address after the @) is the same as the sender's, click Add Sender's Domain (@example.com) to Blocked Senders List.

Hi there,

The envelope icon that i displayed next to the email is just to notify you if the email has been read or not. If it has been read an open envelope will be displayed and if it has not been read a closed envelope will be displayed.

Things you can do to sort this problem out:
1) Try to restart your computer, once it has started, make sure that there are no extra applications running as this will slow your computer down and this might cause your computer to freeze.

2) If you have already read the emails, select them all and delete them. There may be too many emails which can slow your computer down.

Thank you for using FixYa! Have a great day and please remember to rate this solution.

    Hi,

The envelope which is displayed is to show that there are attachments. The images or other media that is attached to the email might be too large or there are too many things attached. What you should do is ask the sender to re-send the email but in a few emails so that there is only 1 or 2 things attached. If there is only one thing attached, it is clearly too large to download so you should ask the sender to change the size of the image by either converting it to a different format or by changing the resolution of it.

Thank you for using FixYa! Have a great day and please remember to rate this solution.

    Best regards,

There's a little symbol for an envelope -- how do I retrieve the message?

Envelope usually indicated a text message. Usually, if you have unread text messages your little envelope will have a number one or number two, etc in red on it.

You will need to go to your text message icon to open your text message screen.. It might be called *Inbox* but it's not email only text or SMS messages.

Clicking on links in email don't work

Links in an email in the Junk folder will never work. It is set this way to protect you. However if you are clicking a link in an email in the Inbox, right click the link and then click "Open Hyperlink". Once you do that the links on emails in your Inbox should work from now on. If not, is IE your default browser? If not make it so. If that does not work open Internet Options >> Control Panel >> Programs Tab >> Reset Web Settings.

That envelope may be your email! Go start your email and see if you have any new ones, and see if the icon goes away. You can turn off email notification in the email application.
