Question about Whirlpool WED6600WL Dryer

1 Answer

The dryer was having trouble drying after a big piece of lint fell off of the lint screen down into the dryer. I first tried to diagnose if the lint was in the lint chute by taking the back off of the dryer and taking out the lint chute. There's also a little metal chute at the top opening of the dryer that connects to the main lint chute by two screws. Unfortunately, I forgot to notice before I took it apart if the lint chute goes around the metal opening where the lint trap goes in or if the metal part at the opening of the lint trap goes around the lint chute. In other words, how do these two pieces fit together? The lint screen seems to be sticking when attempting to push it back in after cleaning. It goes in, just not smoothly like before. Any help would be most appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear that a sock fell into your lint screen chute and I would like to assist you. Be sure to unplug the dryer prior to servicing it! Do not run the dryer until you are able to remove the sock! There are two ways to do this.

A clothes pin and piece of paper fell down the lint trap when I was cleaning the screen. How do I reach the pin and paper to get them out?

This may take you awhile to do, but once you get to it you may find a lot more than that down there. You have to remove the back on most all dryers. If the lint trap is on top, there is a metal chute that lint and other objects fall down.Remove the back and you will see what I am talking about.Once this is done, it is fairly easy to remove the collars that go down to the lint hose. You will then be able to clean all of the lint build up down below that gets by the trap.
Good luck, Sincerely, shastalaker7

How do i install the shoe rack in the dryer

It is a trapezoid, the wide end goes toward the door and lines up with the lint trap. You cannot support two boots, or heavy shoes. It just balances in the rim of the door frame. The handle shaped things face down. You kind of have to pinch it into place, and it just rests there, too much weight and it will topple in. Good luck if you have big feet.

Lint fell down the lint trap. How do I get it

Luckily, dryers are light. Best thing to do is pull it out until you can remove the back cover. (unplug it first) Then vacuum and clean all the dust and lint you can. This should be a yearly thing at least anyway. Replace the back plug it in and slid it back. I do mine every 6 months or so.

Winding noise

Did a piece of the lint tray break off into the workings? Maybe stuff fell off the lint tray into the workings. It sounds like you're going to have to have the machine taken apart to find the problem unless you can see something down the lint tray opening, and retrieve it with a hooked piece of wire.

Sponge fell into lint trap. Is there something I can buy to put down the lint trap to try and get it out?

Surely you should be able to remove lint trap, or you would not be able to clean it!!!!.
Otherwise try a piece of wire with a hook on the end , and retrieve it that way.

Increased drying time; removal of lint behind tumbler ???

I have a top loading Kenmore High capacity dryer that is over 10 years old, it has been working very well, unfortunately when cleaning the lint filter my wife dropped a piece of paper down the lint duct hole. The paper evidently fell to the bottom of the lint duct. I am unable to reach the paper from the top of the dryer where the lint filter is inserted. The dryer now makes a grinding type noise when it is turned on. Can you tell me how to reach the paper and remove it
