We're original owners of this 10 year old dryer. For the past year it was very noisy (squeaks loudly when in operation). I never isolated the cause, just figured the bearings were failing. Last night it...

If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor. If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

My model number is actually a kenmore 94712 and my problem is the dryer wont turn it heats up but the drum isnt turning and im wondering if this is a something we can fix ourself or should we leave it for...

If the dryer is turning on, and you hear the motor running and its heating up, chances are your belt is broken which is a very easy fix. Assuming this is a free standing dryer and not a stack set, take the lint trap out on top, then remove the two screws that are located there. then get youa flat head screw driver and slidein between the front wall and the top of the dryer. it should pop up fairly easy. Once you have that up, there will be turn screws, on on each side on the upper inside front wall. remove those and now you can remove the front. You'll notice if your belt is broken before you g et to this step becase the belt runs around the drum and you'll see it there or if its loose. If you have to replace trhe belt, It will slide around the drum. Underneath you will have to pull back on idler pulley and wrap the belt around the motor shaft. The pulley is then released adding tension to the belt. Put it back together and you should be good to go.

Help - Miele Dryer Model T9800 problem!

The belt is most likely broken. The front drum bearing seal may have worn out and caused this to happen. Call Miele. You'll be better off.

Drum not turning-very loud sound coming frm dryer when turned on

There could be multiple problems with you whirlpool dyer depending on the type of noise you are hearing. If the noise is a low grumble or loud buzzing sound this could indicate a bad motor. Which could explain you not hearing the drum turning. If however you hear a grating or grinding type noise but the drum is turning, this could indicate that something is rubbing or has become jammed inside the blower fan that circulates the air. if this is the case it too may have to be replaced. Also the drum can sometime come off the drum support rollers at the back of the dryer, but this is very uncommon, and only happens if they are very worn or broken. This can easily be diagnosed by a technician and if the motor is fine, will cost little to repair.Hope this helps.

Thanks

Kenmore electric dryer, power on, drum doesn't turn. Help? can I fix this myself or do I have to call out for repairs. About how much will this cost, or should I replace, it's about 12 years old. Thankx

check the belt that goes around the drum and the idler and motor pulley. if it is broken replace it. when installing the ribs on the belt go down against the drum. a new belt is somewhere between $10-$20. you can do this easily yourself.

Kenmore dryer electric doesnt start

It sounds like the dryer drum belt is broken

there is a drive belt that goes all the way around the dryer drum and when you press start the drum starts turning unless teh belt is off or broken

You can change the belt or call and have service technician change it
