Don,t do that insatead: Entering the BIOS Setup menu
the BIOS Setup menu requires pressing a specific key at a specific
time. If you fail to enter the Setup menu on your first try, repeat the
following steps until you are successful:
Close all applications that are currently running and restart the computer by clicking Start
, Shut Down
, Restart the Computer
, and then OK
When the red Compaq logo or blue HP logo screen appears, press the F10
key on the keyboard to enter the Setup menu.
alternate to the above steps, especially if the logo screen disappears
too quickly to enter BIOS, is to shut down (turn off) the computer. Wait
30 seconds, turn the power on and press F10
at the logo screen.Reloading the default settings
Complete the following steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup settings:
In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit
Select Load Setup Defaults
Select Save Changes and Exit
and the Enter
key will also load the Setup Defaults).
You will need to boot the computer with a boot disk. If you do not have one that came with the computer, you will need to contact your manufacturer or the store where you purchased the computer and get one from them. A boot disk cost anywhere from $10-20. When starting the computer, have the boot disk in the drive and when the prompt asks where do you want to load from, select your DVD/CD drive.
Your boot menu for Windows is corrupt. Try to boot from the windows installation disc and make sure to key any key when told to boot off the disc. Once the windows files load, you will have a choice of what to do next. If you have XP, choose the repair option and you will be faced with a black DOS screen...after the blinking cursor type
FIXBOOT hit enter Try to boot the computer without the disc in it. If it does not boot, then boot off disc again and this time type:
FIXMBR hit yes and enter
Try once again to boot without the disc.
Also try to boot into safe mode by tapping F8 when you see the Compaq name come up during starting. If you can get to the multiple boot up option screen, scroll to "Safe mode with networking" and choose that. If it boots then you can go to the start button > accessories > system tools > system restore > choose a restore point back a day or two and follow the prompts.
If you have Vista, boot off the disc and choose start up repair. If that doesn't work, boot again and choose restore computer to an earlier time. Again choose a restore point back a few days. Good luck ParrotHead PC Repair
In that situation, try to boot it in SAFE MODE. You get into this by pressing F8 during boot up. The menu will come up and you choose the mode you want. While in safe mode you will have to try and use system restore to go back to when the computer was working. It's like PC time travel.
when the pc is powering up, keep pressing F8 to get into safe mode, and when in the menu select last known good configuration and press enter for a reboot.
This should get you running, if not restart again pressing F8, but this time select start windows in safe mode and whilst in safe mode select the administrator account and try doing a system restore to a date before you tried loading the programe, and let the pc re boot, and hopefully you are now ok.
