Non system disk or disk error (by 7 users)

i dont hav any software i was just given the laptop with the plug charger thing. when i turn it on it either says 1790 disk 0 error or it says non system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready. can i get it to work?

I have the same problem.

when i turn on my laptop (compaq armada e500) it displays the compaq logo then goes to a black screen that says: non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready.

I have a comaq armada e500, PIII, 700Mhz, 256RAM. When i apply power it displays compaq logo for about 2 mn and then displays non systems disk or disk error, please replace ans strike any key to continue. The hard works very well when inserted in another notebook. It can boot on Floppy diskette no prob. but CD and HDD don't boot.

get a new hard drive and reinstall software + OS

not necessary.... check the bios and see if the bios can see thehard drive make sure that the computer knows to boot off of the hard drives and listen to the computer to see if the drives spin up
