Have a whirlpool washer that now hums when I turn the cycle on, no water just a hum

I had a similar problem - had to get a technician out - there was a valve at the back of the machine that allows the machine to fill. It had split (apparently its a common problem? there are separate valves for hot and cold water, so I'm not sure if using a different cycle choice (ie cold only), may let the machine fill?). 10 minute fix job

Dishwasher fills with water. then hums but dosen't clean

Sounds like water-level sensor is ok as it stops filling then 'hums'. I'd (carefully) check the connections to the connections between the level-sensor and the wash motor start relay. Could be motor is bad or something is causing it to become 'jammed'. Before you begin opening the appliance, I'd attempt to vacuum out the water or try putting the control in the last position to cause it to try to pump out the water.

My machine is not working, you turn it on but it only makes a humming sound. what should I do?

Hello,

their are a couple possible humming sounds depending on what the machine is set to do

1) If hums when is suppose to fill, the water supply is either turned off,or the filter screens on water inlet are clogged. To check screens turn off water supply, remove hoses, pop out screens inside of water valve where hoses attach to and check for blockage.

2) if hums when supposed to spin, either motor capicator located on back wall inside cabinet it bad and not giving the motor a jump start OR the capicator is good and motor itself is bad

Unless your fairly mechanically inclined checking the capicator is hard to do so its best done by a appliance tech,AS LONG AS WATER IS on if the capicator is good its the motor and that isa major repair and may cost as much as replacing the washer, if it is the capicator its reasonably priced.

I hope this helps,
Gene

Check your fill tubes remove the hoses and see if the filters are plugged, you are not hearing the motor humming. You are hearing the watervalve humming, the motor will not start until the tube is full of water.

Your machine has multiple issues. First, the obvious: are the water lines turned on? When you try to fill it with water, can you hear the water valve humming? Try different temperatures, too. If it lets one temp in, but not the other, you need a water valve. If it doesn't hum at all, you could have a problem with the pressure switch or the timer.
The motor humming is the issue that worries me. Try removing the belt from the motor pulley. If the motor turns now, it's a transmission problem. If it won't agitate (you'll have to satisfy the pressure switch first) or spin at all, your transmission could be locked up. I've had limited success by pulling on the belt (hard) in both directions. This has only worked once to unjam the transmission.
Good luck!
