Digital Display does not light up. Suspect feed resistor that supplies voltage to display. Can I obtain service manual?

Thank you for the info. I did speak to a technician who essentially said the same thing Cost of a new module is about $260. It is my opinion that the only thing wrong is probably a resistor that feeds the voltage to the display itself. If it goes open, the display receives no voltage. The display itself is probably OK. I feel that I should be able to fix it for the cost of a resistor. Just the way they make things today. Not to be fixed. Thanks again for your input.

Replacing the entire module is one solution, however I feel taht if just a small component is at fault, such as a resistor, I should be able to replace this. Thanks for your help.

You're going to need to buy the whole display module. If you are pretty handy at taking apart and putting back together along with minor electrical as simple as plugging wires onto a connector then you can do it yourself. Just get to the module, disconnect it and take it to your local appliance parts dealer. They'll match it up and order you one or they may have it in stock.

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

Some weeks ago the display dimmed and on the next day it was completely dark. Except the light nothing works anymore. Pressing of the UPPER OFF or LOWER OFF buttons has no effect. There is no error co

the display dimmed the it went out hummmm sounds the usual
could be a dry bad solders on the controller pcb...
as its now gone out...
sounds like the psu section of the controller board has failed
you can take a look around for the details or take it to a service guy who will prob just remove and replace the controller board or you can order the controller board and fit it yourself

basically you have a low voltage supply to the controller
and this switches the high voltage and fan controls of the oven so whats happened is the low voltage supply to the controller board has failed as you say it went dim this tells me that the display inverter section or its supply has failed and as the supply to the controllers sections and display inverter its safe to assume that the main low voltage supply section on the controller pcb has a problem

this is usually caused by bad capacitors that can cause other components to fails this is why a service engineer will avoid trying to repair and and will refresh the controller pcb

so.... if your up for it youll need a DVM and a diagram
other than this a new board...

Stoves 720EF oven controller/timer stopped working. It occasionally allows oven to work but stops after a few minutes. Display fades.

I haven't tried this myself but if you know what you are doing, then it is worth having a go! Firstly, if you need a new clock/timer for the 720, they are about £80 from espares.
Someone else has stated that a number of oven timers have an electrolytic capacitor which ages and cause the display to fail.. The following is from his post:-

The display went blank, and the oven would no longer operate.

By looking at the specification sheet for the timer, it appears the models vary chiefly on the series resistors installed in the mains supply. On the New World, the mains power goes through a 5.6K resistor both on the live and Neutral, making a total mains series resistance of 11.2K. Newer models presumably consume less power so need different series resistors.

Anyway, I managed to fix my timer. There was a relay, three resistors, a zero-ohm link, an ASIC (Application-specific integrated circuit) chip and an electrolytic capacitor.

Electrolytic capacitors tend to 'dry' over time. In other words, they wear out. The relay is usually in one state and not subject to wear. The resistors checked out OK with an ohmmeter. ASIC semiconductor chips tend to be very reliable. They only fail in times of surge etc, and the mains series resistors would definitely prevent that! This left prime suspect #1. The electrolytic capacitor.

The capacitor on the board was a 220uF 25V radial 125 centigrade electrolytic. These are extremely common components. Any radial electrolytic of 220uF and equal or greater than 25v, and with adequate temperature endurance will do.

I couldn't find anything over 85 centigrade endurance in my electronics box. Bearing in mind my cooker has a cooling fan, and the panel never feels hot, I took the chance on my 85 centigrade capacitor. Rated 220uF 63v.

De-soldered the original capacitor, and making sure I have the polarity correct, soldered the new one in. Polished the display, and all working like new!

As I said I haven't checked this and I presume you would get a replacement from Maplin. The standard radials are part no VH41R and VH43W and the higher heat DT64U. If you did do this you will obviously need to check if this fix is applicable ( is the capacitor accessable) and also the rating of the capacitor. Let us know how you get on.

The control panel display light is completely dark but the oven still seems to function ok. Jenn Air Model WW30430P double wall oven.

A lot of ovens use a gas-filled vacuum flourescent display module that takes a higher voltage to drive it. The modules can get damaged or the power supply for the higher voltage (usually around 50 volts) may have failed.

Chances are the thing is only sold as an assembly...While the displays are common in auto speedometers that have digital display, those for these ovens are special with wpecial characters and background.

Won't start

I wired the oven to a different socket temporarily to check it and all the display lights came on immediately so I assume every thing else will work on a permanent supply. It is in fact a supply problem at the oven supply point and the electrician who rewired the house is coming tomorrow to solve the problem hopefully.
