Question about Whirlpool DU912 Dishwasher

1 Answer

Our whirlpool du912 has worked good for 10 years, but now will not drain. I looked in the bottom for something that might be jamming the hardware but saw nothing. Do I need to disassemble the "filter module" and if so, how.

My dishwasher isn't draining after it's cycles.

Hi
Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller & clean the chopper assembly. Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

Water leaks out of the front of the dishwasher between the top door panel and the small cover that sits under it. Is it an easy fix and cheap or should I get a new dishwasher?

Hi

The issue is with the water not draining as something might be blocking the drain pump assembly thus the water is leaking. To solve this issue you'll have to take the front lower access panel out and then clean the drain pump assembly completely, also clean the impeller and chopper assembly located at the bottom of the unit. After this is done the issue should be resolved, if not then check the float switch mechanism and make sure that is fine. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Water freezing in bottom of freezer. freezer is 10 years old.

The defrost drain outlet is stopped up and freezing over.
Remove the bottom basket.
Turn the freezer off.
Look in the center of the freezer just below the cooling coils in the bottom of the freezer.
You will see a water drain trough.
It will be full of ice.
Use a hair dryer to thaw the ice and remove it.
The drain will become exposed.
It must be thawed also,so that you can pour water through it and the water goes all the way to the drain pan underneath.

Water sometimes leaks out the side of the door

Give the seals a good clean all around the door sometimes these will clog and cause a leak through the door, mainly the seals at the botom of the door on the inside.

Hope this helps

My kenmore washer - washes but will not drain nor fill for rinse. Will not spin?

I suggest first checking the water pump. If you don't know how to get inside your machine, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLPGs2UMUJc&feature=related. It is very good (I've never worked on a WM before and this told me exactly what to do). Remove the washer casing and first check the pump. Take off the BOTTOM hose first to let the water drain into the spill pan (Have a bucket handy and or something with which to plug the pump in case the flow is too fast for your drain pan - but if you have an obstruction, it should drain slowly.) Once the water is out, remove the top hose and look inside your pump. I had a similar issue and found a small sock in my pump. Pulled it out and my 9 year old WM works like a champ now.

If that doesn't fix it, I'd then suggest removing the motor (just 2 screws and 2 clips) and checking the motor coupler. But if the coupler was the problem, your machine should have at least drained.

If that doesn't do the trick, you could be looking at a new transmission/gear casing - which on my WM was going to be around $170.

But again, I suspect your looking at something jammed in your water pump. Good luck!

Whirlpool GU980SCGQO not draining and I'm expecting 27 dinner guests Sunday

Ok, there are a couple of things it could be. The pump motor could be stuck, which is the most likely. Remove the bottom panel and look underneath. Spin the impeller until it spins freely, then try to start the dishwasher. Make sure the door is open before you do this, so that the impeller doesn't run while your hand is in it =)

Also, check the drain hose for a check valve. Sometimes these get stuck in the wrong position and it won't drain well. If none of these work, let me know and I'll help you further.
